Use of neuraxial block in a patient with severe kyphoscoliosis is controversial. We describe the anaesthetic management by spinal anaesthesia of a parturient with severe kyphoscoliosis in obstructed labour. The perioperative course was uneventful. We suggest that a patient with severe kyphoscoliosis may be successfully managed by spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section.

n a recent review article on spinal anesthesia for cesarean section (l), Kestin recommended the use I of subarachnoid anesthesia if epidural block was inadequate after the administration of the maximum allowable dose of local anesthetic (2). The use of spinal anesthesia in obstetrics has also been advocated for patients with potentially difficult airways, as this approach usually would obviate ...

Neuropathic pain remains one of the most challenging of all neurological diseases and presents a large unmet need for improved therapies. Many mechanistic details are still lacking, but greater knowledge of overlapping mechanisms and disease comorbidities has highlighted key areas for intervention. These include peripheral and central hyperexcitability. Among the molecular drivers are ion chann...

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is one of the most feared complications of alcohol dependence and can be fatal if not managed actively. A 61-year-old man, alcoholic with 50 h of abstinence before surgery, rec...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is a relatively common enzymopathy, but there are few publications relating such condition to anesthesia. This report aimed at presenting a case of a G6PD-deficient patient, submitted to Achilles tendon tenotomy under intravenous anesthesia associated to spinal block. CASE REPORT Male patient, 9 years old, 48 kg, wi...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Combined spinal epidural anesthesia (CSEA) has advantages over single injection epidural or subarachnoid blockades. The objective of this report was to present a case in which segmental subarachnoid block can be an effective technique for gastrointestinal surgery with spontaneous respiration. CASE REPORT Patient with physical status ASA III, with diabetes mellitus ty...
