Nitrite is an important reservoir of nitric oxide activity in the plasma and cells. Using a biomimetic model, we demonstrate the conversion of zinc-bound nitrite in the tris(pyrazolyl)borate complex (iPr2)TpZn(NO2) to the corresponding S-nitrosothiol RSNO and zinc thiolate (iPr2)TpZn-SR via reaction with thiols H-SR. Decomposition of the S-nitrosothiol formed releases nitric oxide gas.
Mechanochemical dry conversion that only uses zinc oxide and an imidazole ligand proved to be effective and reliable for fabrication of a zeolitic imidazolate framework with a polycrystalline grain boundary and a core-shell structure. The zinc oxide crystals are converted into a zeolitic imidazolate framework to a depth of approx. 10 nm below the surface.
We measured the second-harmonic signal generated by high-quality zinc oxide single crystals. Comparing this signal with that generated by single-crystal quartz, used as a standard, we found that the components of the second-order susceptibility tensor differ somewhat from the values reported earlier. Measurements of two zinc oxide single crystals with different orientations yield similar results.
Zinc oxide nanoparticles are highly sensitive towards phosphate ions even at pH 7. Buffer solutions and cell culture media containing phosphate ions are able to destroy ZnO nanoparticles within a time span from less than one hour to one day. The driving force of the reaction is the formation of zinc phosphate of very low solubility. The morphology of the zinc oxide particles has only a minor in...
The study of zinc bioavailability in foods is important because this mineral intake does not meet the recommended doses for some population groups. Also, the presence of dietary factors that reduce zinc absorption contributes to its deficiency. Rice fortified with micronutrients (Ultra Rice®) is a viable alternative for fortification since this cereal is already inserted into the population hab...
A feasibility study on the possible growth of rod-shaped nano size zinc oxide particles on the surface of polyester fabric was investigated. The nanoparticles were produced using a hydrolysis method, with a zinc compound being utilized as the starter material. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDS) and X-ray d...
In this work, the fabrication and characterization of fully solution-processed zinc oxide metal–insulator–semiconductor (MIS) capacitors by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) are presented. Fluorine tin oxide by USP was used as transparent electrode, while spin-on glass by spin-coating was used as dielectric and zinc oxide by USP was used as active layer. Also, the zinc oxide film was characteriz...
In current study, nanoparticles and single crystals of a Zn(II) coordination complex, [Zn(dmph)I2](1), {dmph=2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline(neocuproine)}, have been synthesized by the reaction of zinc(II) acetate, KI and neocuproine as ligand in methanol using sonochemical and heat gradient methods, respectively. The nanostructure of 1 was characte...
