There has been an exponential rise in the use of minimally invasive procedures in surgery, with obvious benefits to patients. Recently, transumbilical single-port laparoscopic surgery has been championed as the next major technical advance. In this article, we report the first case where single-port laparoscopic surgery has been used to manage a paediatric problem in the region.
STUDY OBJECTIVE To determine whether fewer ports in laparoscopic adnexal surgery would lead to better cosmesis. DESIGN Prospective comparative study (Canadian Task Force classification II-2). SETTING University hospital. PATIENTS One hundred thirty consecutive patients with adnexal tumors. INTERVENTIONS Patients underwent laparoscopy using a single port (n = 75), 2 ports (n = 22), or 4 ...
BACKGROUND An implantable port device provides an easily accessible central route for long-term chemotherapy. Venous catheter migration is one of the rare complications of venous port implantation. It can lead to side effects such as pain in the neck, shoulder, or ear, venous thrombosis, and even life-threatening neurologic problems. To date, there are few published studies that discuss such co...
Although single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy is now widely performed in patients with cholecystitis, some cases require an additional port to complete the procedure. In this study, we focused on risk factor of additional port in this surgery. We performed single-incision cholecystectomy in 75 patients with acute cholecystitis or after cholecystitis between 2010 and 2014 at Gunma Univer...
INTRODUCTION Single-port laparoscopic adrenalectomy is one of the most interesting surgical advances. Here, we evaluate the safety and feasibility of single-port laparoscopic adrenalectomy as treatment for a right-sided aldosterone-producing adenoma. CASE PRESENTATION A 39-year-old Japanese woman presented with hypertension and hypokalemia. Abdominal computed tomography and an endocrinologica...
INTRODUCTION Single-port total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) has not been widely used because of its technical difficulty and steep learning curve, especially the laparoscopic suturing of the vaginal stump. Barbed suturing is a new technology that has the potential to greatly facilitate laparoscopic suturing. AIM To compare surgical outcomes and vaginal vault healing between barbed sutures ...
Robotic surgery has greatly improved surgeon dexterity and ergonomics but has substantially increased the number and size of ports required. The typical robotic surgical procedure will use three 8-mm ports and two 12-mm ports. Single-port laparoscopy, also known as Laparo-Endoscopic Single Site (LESS) surgery, is an attempt to further enhance cosmetic benefits and reduce morbidity of minimally ...
PURPOSE We review the literature and describe our technique for laparoendoscopic single-site orchidopexy using a glove port and rigid instruments. We assessed the feasibility and outcomes of this procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the case records of all children who had undergone laparoendoscopic single-site orchidopexy by use of a surgical glove port and convention...
INTRODUCTION Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently the gold standard for removal of symptomatic gallbladders. The push in recent years toward reducing the number of ports required to perform this surgery has led to the development of single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC). We report our early experience with SILC and assess its feasibility and safety. METHODS A prospective st...
