in this note we introduce the notion of weak mccoy rings as a generalization of mccoy rings, and investigate their properties. also we show that, if is a semi-commutative ring, then is weak mccoy if and only if is weak mccoy.

We have developed a practical, low-cost ventricular assist device (VAD) comprising a newly designed blood chamber with a silicone lenticular sac and two silicone tri-leaflet valves (STV), made en bloc. This new VAD is seamless, can be made cost-effectively and assembled with the blood chamber and valve as one body. This novel design should reduce the incident of thrombus formation because of th...

Background: Ropivacaine for intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA) provides prolonged analgesia over lidocaine and have a lower toxicity compared with bupivacaine. To reduce the amount of local anesthetic and to improve the quality of the block additives like opioids are used. Aim: The present study was designed to assess the anesthetic efficacy and post-tourniquet analgesia of adding fentanyl ...

BACKGROUND Tourniquets are used to provide a bloodless surgical field for extremities. Hypotension due to vasodilation and bleeding after tourniquet deflation is a common event. Hemodynamic stability is modulated by the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Heart rate variability (HRV) is a sensitive method for detecting individuals who may be at risk of hemodynamic instability during general anesthe...

Despite promising results observed using silicone rubber chamber, no previous comprehensive work was performed on behavior of the conduit. Present study aimed at further functional, histomorphometrical and immunohistochemical assessment of nerve regeneration in the same animal along a 10-mm rat sciatic nerve gap. Fifty- four male Wistar rats were divided into three experimental groups (n = 1...

The ring-sheared drop is a containerless system where shear imparted by two contact rings, one rotating and the other stationary. In microgravity, aqueous drops can be studied in air at centimeter scale. Drops of this scale also experimentally on Earth, but effects gravity need to mitigated density matching liquid its surrounding fluid. use silicone oil surrounded an solution allows while retai...

BACKGROUND Tourniquet use recently became common in war, but knowledge gaps remain regarding analysis of recovered devices. The purpose of this study was to analyze tourniquets to identify opportunities for improved training. METHODS We analyzed tourniquets recovered from deceased service members serving in support of recent combat operations by a team at Dover Air Force Base from 2010 to 201...

Tissue damage during surgery induces coagulation factors and activates platelets. Surgical pain may provoke release of catecholamines, leading to hypercoagulability. We have investigated the effect of surgical pain on blood coagulability and fibrinolysis in orthopaedic operations using tourniquets in 22 patients undergoing total knee replacement. Patients were allocated to one of two groups to ...
