This paper describes the synthesis and application of PEGylated liposome-coated quantum dots (QDs)/mesoporous silica core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) for molecular imaging. This system increases biocompatibility and stability of QDs, thus improving the imaging effects in labeling of cancer cells.

A facile one-pot approach is successfully developed to construct the stable Au nanochains with silica shell via self-assembly and classical Stöber process. The resulting Au chain@SiO2 nanoparticles holds great promise for serving as a safe, reusable, and high-performance photothermal agent against cancer.

Magnetic nanocapsules were synthesized for controlled drug release, magnetically assisted delivery, and MRI imaging. These magnetic nanocapsules, consisting of a stable iron nanocore and a mesoporous silica shell, were synthesized by controlled encapsulation of ellipsoidal hematite in silica, partial etching of the hematite core in acid, and reduction of the core by hydrogen. The iron core prov...

Near-infrared (NIR)-to-Visible upconversion fluorescent nanoparticles emit visible light upon NIR-light excitation, and are well suited for bioimaging, compared to the commonly used downconversionfluorescentmaterials.Thesenanoparticleshave advantages such as minimum photodamage to living organisms, weak background fluorescence, high detection sensitivity, and high light-penetration depth in tis...

Core-shell nanoparticles consisting of silica as core and surface-grafted poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) as shell with different diameters were prepared and used as heterogeneous nucleation agents to obtain CO2-blown poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposite foams. PDMS was selected as the shell material as it possesses a low surface energy and high CO2-philicity. The successful synthesis o...

A novel enzyme immobilization approach was used to generate mesoporous enzymes-silica composite microparticles by co-entrapping gelatinized starch and cross-linked phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) aggregates (CLEAs) containing gelatinized starch into biomemitic silica and subsequently removing the starch by α-amylase treatment. During the preparation process, the gelatinzed starch served as a ...

A facile method to coat carbon fibers with a silica shell is presented in this work. By immobilizing linear polyamines on the carbon fiber surface, the high catalytic activity of polyamines in the sol-gel-processing of silica precursors is used to deposit a silica coating directly on the fiber's surface. The surface localization of the catalyst is achieved either by attaching short-chain polyam...

A new class of silica-based zeolite capsule catalyst was readily prepared employing a dual-layer method under close-to-neutral conditions. In a tandem catalysis process, the precisely controlled synthesis of dimethyl ether was realized. This new concept of H-type zeolite shell preparation and application represents a powerful approach for preparing high-performance, multifunctional catalysts.

We demonstrate a sol-gel approach, using a water-in-oil microemulsion as the template, for the synthesis of hollow and yolk/shell silica nanospheres, which can encapsulate pre-formed hydrophobic nanoparticles, and we then explore these multifunctional hollow nanospheres in cell-labeling applications.
