In this study, a novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/computed tomography (CT)/fluorescence trifunctional probe was prepared by loading iodinated oil into fluorescent mesoporous silica-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (i-fmSiO4@SPIONs). Fluorescent mesoporous silica-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (fmSiO4@SPIONs) were prepared by growing fluorescent dye-dope...

Deep UV fluorescence detection at 266-nm excitation wavelength has been realized for sensitive detection in microchip electrophoresis. For this purpose, an epifluorescence setup was developed enabling the coupling of a deep UV laser into a commercial fluorescence microscope. Deep UV laser excitation utilizing a frequency quadrupled pulsed laser operating at 266 nm shows an impressive performanc...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strengths of pre- and untreated resin core materials to lithium disilicate ceramics. Bond strengths to dental hard tissues served as controls. Ceramic cubes (IPS-Empress II) were luted either with a one-step (Variolink II/Excite DSC) or multiple-step total etching bonding system (Tetric Flow/Syntac Classic) to ground surfaces of human enamel,...

A simple and cost effective solid-phase microextraction device has been developed. Fused-silica capillaries were etched with ammonium hydrogen difluoride prior to coating with an ionic liquid. For comparison, both a bare fused-silica capillary and one pretreated with a Nafion membrane were coated with the ionic liquid. All three coated capillaries were employed for the head space microextractio...

This paper describes the synthesis and application of PEGylated liposome-coated quantum dots (QDs)/mesoporous silica core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) for molecular imaging. This system increases biocompatibility and stability of QDs, thus improving the imaging effects in labeling of cancer cells.

We fabricated chemically and shape-anisotropic colloids composed of silica rods coated with gold tips using a multistep process involving electric-field alignment and crystallization, microcontact printing, and selective metallization. Through direct observation, we found that these "Janus matchsticks" self-assemble into multipods (bi-, tri-, and tetrapods) of varying coordination number and pa...

The spatially controlled synthesis of poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) monolithic stationary phases in polyimide coated fused silica capillaries by visible light induced radical polymerisation using a three-component initiator and a 660 nm light emitting diode (LED) as a light source is presented here.

Herein, large pore mesostructured cellular silica foam coated magnetic oxide composites (MO@MCFs) with multilamellar vesicle shells (MO@MLVs) were obtained, which exhibited a large pore (>10 nm), strong magnetic response (38 emu g(-1)), excellent protein adsorption and slow drug-release capacity.

We measured in situ the radiation-induced absorption of pure silica core fibers exposed to a fission nuclear reactor. We observed the growth of the 1.39m OH vibration band in polymer coated fiber. Three mechanisms are responsible for this effect: recoil protons, hydrogen diffusion, and a probable compaction effect. Based on this experiment, a fiber-optic neutron monitor prototype is proposed.

We present a method for the generation of high kinetic energy attosecond electron packets via magnetostatic and aperture filtering of conical surface plasmon (SP) accelerated electrons. The conical SP waves are excited by coupling an ultrafast radially polarized laser beam to a conical silica lens coated with an Ag film. Electromagnetic and particle tracking models are employed to characterize ...
