This paper proposes a new approach to subpixel registration, under local/global shifts or rotation, using the phase-difference matrix. We establish the exact relationship between the continuous and the discrete phase difference of two shifted images and show that their discrete phase difference is a 2-dimensional sawtooth signal. As a result, the exact shifts or rotations can be determined to su...

This paper shows that matter-wave interferometers employing low-velocity neutral atoms can be used as inertial sensors with sensitivities that exceed those of conventional mechanical sensors and multiple circuit optical interferometers by many powers of ten. The energy and mass dependence of the phase shifts that are due to rotation and acceleration are different. Thus a pair of interferometers...

We realize beam splitters and mirrors for atom waves by employing a sequence of light pulses rather than individual ones. In this way we can tailor atom interferometers with improved sensitivity and accuracy. We demonstrate our method of composite pulses by creating a symmetric matter-wave interferometer which combines the advantages of conventional Bragg- and Raman-type concepts. This feature ...

We study the ”Lie Algebra” of the group of Gauge Transformations of Space-time. We obtain topological invariants arising from this Lie Algebra. Our methods give us fresh mathematical points of view on Lorentz Transformations, orientation conventions, the Doppler shift, Pauli matrices , Electro-Magnetic Duality Rotation, Poynting vectors, and the Energy Momentum Tensor T .

Recently Gizon, Duvall, and Schou (2002) suggested that supergranulation has a wave-like component. In this paper I show that the same phenomenon can be observed using surface Doppler shift data, thereby confirming their observations. I am also able to measure the dispersion relation to lower wavenumbers and to extend the results for rotation and meridional flows beyond ±70 • latitude.

This study explores chronotype-dependent tolerance to the demands of working morning, evening, and night shifts in terms of social jet lag, sleep duration, and sleep disturbance. A total of 238 shift-workers were chronotyped with the Munich ChronoType Questionnaire for shift-workers (MCTQ(Shift)), which collects information about shift-dependent sleep duration and sleep timing. Additionally, 94...

Although recent studies have brought new insights concerning the mechanisms of spatial memory and cognitive strategies during navigation, most of these studies have concerned 2D navigation and little is know concerning the problem of 3D spatial memory. In a previous experiment we have studied the influence of the relation between egocentric and allocentric frame of references on memorisation of...

Doerr's theory of the morphogenesis of transposition is discussed with special reference to recent studies by Goor and co-workers and Anderson and associates. The views advanced by all these authors coincide in three points: (a) the description of the reorganisation process occurring at the arterial end of the embryonic heart (a process called by Doerr vectorial bulbus rotation); (b) the pathog...

Motion blur is a phenomenon which is corrupting images when, any motion occurs between the camera viewpoint and the captured scene during the acquisition. Rarely this can be described with a shift invariant operator although this is a common assumption in the literature. In a motion blurred image, the Point Spread Function (PSF) of each pixel is determined by the relative motion between the cam...
