We show that if (u,K) is a minimizer of the Mumford-Shah functional in an open set Ω of R, and if x ∈ K and r > 0 are such that K is close enough to a minimal cone of type P (a plane), Y (three half planes meeting with 120◦ angles) or T (cone over a regular tetrahedron centered at the origin) in terms of Hausdorff distance in B(x, r), then K is C equivalent to the minimal cone in B(x, cr) where...
An effective p-adic encoding of dendrograms is presented through an explicit embedding into the Bruhat-Tits tree for a p-adic number field. This field depends on the number of children of a vertex and is a finite extension of the field of p-adic numbers. It is shown that fixing p-adic representatives of the residue field allows a natural way of encoding strings by identifying a given alphabet w...
We deal with the Ambrosio-Tortorelli approximation of the well-known Mumford-Shah functional to model quasi-static crack propagation in brittle materials. We employ anisotropic mesh adaptation to efficiently capture the crack path. Aim of this work is to investigate the numerical sensitivity of the crack behavior to the parameters involved in both the physical model and in the adaptive procedure.
We propose and analyze extensions of the Mumford-Shah functional for color images. Our main motivation is the concept of images as surfaces. We also review most of the relevant theoretical background and computer vision literature.
One of the more successful approaches to image segmentation involves formulating the problem as the minimisation of a Mumford-Shah functional and then using region merging algorithms to approximate the minimiser. Recent work by Redding et al. presented such an algorithm and demonstrated the quality of the segmentations it produces. Here, we extend that work in two ways. First, we describe a var...
I will introduce the notion of Mukai regularity for coherent sheaves on abelian varieties, defined via conditions on the supports of the cohomologies of Fourier-Mukai transform complexes. In a very special form, depending on the choice of a polarization, this resembles and in fact strenghtens the classical notion of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity. The techniques are in part a generalization of ...
