PURPOSE To highlight the recognition and diagnosis of Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) in patients with sebaceous tumors of the eyelid/conjunctiva and to determine the role of immunohistochemical markers as a screening test in patients with Muir-Torre syndrome. DESIGN Single interventional case report. METHODS The clinical and family history was reviewed from the records of a 41-year-old man who h...
OBJECTIVE To determine if there are differences in the activity of 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and 5alpha-reductase (responsible for the production of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, respectively) in sebaceous glands obtained from men and women with and without acne. DESIGN Single-center examination of androgen levels and sebaceous gland enzyme activity in a cohort of volunteers...
Sebaceous carcinoma (SC) is a rare cutaneous malignant neoplasm. It derived from the epithelium of sebaceous glands and thus, can occur anywhere in body where these are found. SC two types: ocular extraocular, with extraocular being axilla very rare. The paper reports case 55-year-old male patient, complain swelling right axilla. patient underwent wide local excision mass excised specimen was s...
Recent data suggest that heterogeneous compartments of the bulge display differential gene expression, and supply cells to different lineages within the pilosebaceous unit (Jaks et al, 2008; Jensen et al, 2009; Snippert et al, 2010). In particular, Lgr6 and Lrig1 are expressed above the CD34þ bulge region and Lgr6 expressing cells contribute primarily to the sebaceous gland (Figure 1). Thus, if...
Sebaceous glands in the esophagus are very rare and have been reported mostly in autopsy studies. They have been considered to be of no clinical significance. We report a 50-year-old man with gastroesophageal reflux disease who had sebaceous glands in the esophagus on endoscopic biopsy.
A case of larva migrans or serpiginous linear dermatitis on the scalp of a teenager is reported. An ancylostomid larva was found within a sebaceous gland acinus. The unusual skin site for larva migrans as well as the penetration through the sebaceous gland are highlighted. The probable mechanism by which the parasite reached the skin adnexa is discussed.
Nevus sebaceous (NS) is a benign neoplasm occurring mainly on the face and scalp. It commonly occurs as a solitary, well-demarcated lesion. This paper presents a case of multiple nevus sebaceous, which presented as multiple lesions occurring on the temporal scalp and on the contralateral side of the chin. Multiple NS have only rarely been reported.
Primary sebaceous carcinoma of salivary glands is a rare entity with approximately 22 de novo documented cases. Similar tumor arising in a benign mixed tumor has only been reported once. We report a second case of sebaceous carcinoma in a pleomorphic adenoma and discuss the clinicopathologic features, histogenesis, and the differential diagnosis of this unusual tumor.
To examine the consequences of inhibiting activator protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factors in skin, transgenic mice were generated, which use the tetracycline system to conditionally express A-FOS, a dominant negative that inhibits AP-1 DNA binding. Older mice develop mild alopecia and hyperplasia of sebaceous glands, particularly around the eyes. When A-FOS was expressed during chemical-induce...
