The stromal and immune cells that form the tumor microenvironment serve a key role in the aggressiveness of tumors. Current tumor-centric interpretations of cancer transcriptome data ignore the roles of stromal and immune cells. The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical utility of stromal and immune cells in tissue-based transcriptome data. The 'Estimation of STromal and Immu...
A 75-years-old man presented with a clinical diagnosis of hydrocele. Grossly examination revealed a large (14x8x9 cm) tumor. Histologically, the tumor had a mixed pattern, with major pleomorphic and a minor sclerosing well-differentiated component. The anatomo-clinical features, the prognosis and the principles of treatment of this rare condition are shortly discussed.
A 28-year-old puerperant with fever came to our hospital. Her last delivery was uneventful. Her laboratory data was normal except for anemia (red blood cell count was 3.41 × 106/μl) and elevated serum C-reactive protein (7.23 mg/dl). CA19-9, CA125, and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were negative. She had no family history indicating hereditary cancer syndrome. Ultrasound revealed a right adnex...
INTRODUCTION Duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors are uncommon and a relatively small subset of gastrointestinal stromal tumors whose optimal surgical procedure has not been well defined. Because submucosal spread and local lymph node involvement are infrequent in gastrointestinal stromal tumors, wide margins with routine lymph node dissection may not be required. Various surgical procedure...
Sclerosing epitheloid fibrosarcoma is a rare, histologically well-defined member of adult fibrosarcoma group of soft tissue tumors. Its main histological features are nests and cords of rounded tumor cells surrounded by hyalinized collagenous stroma. Epitheloid appearance with marked sclerosis and infiltrating growth pattern, along with occasional immunohistochemical positivity for epithelial m...
Background: Wilm’s tumor is the most frequent primary renal neoplasma in pediatric age group. Classically it is composed of three histologic parts: Blastemal, Epithelial and stromal. Different factors are implicated as prognostic determinants. Nowadays special attention is paid to proliferation markers for determining the biologic behavior of tumors. In this study we tried to ascertain the prol...
AIMS Cancer development and progression is not only associated with the tumor cell proliferation but also depends on the interaction between tumor cells and the stromal microenvironment. A new understanding of the role of the tumor microenvironment suggests that the loss of stromal caveolin-1 (Cav-1) as a key regulator may become a potential therapy target. This study aims to elucidate whether ...
We and others have previously identified a loss of stromal caveolin-1 (Cav-1) in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) as a powerful single independent predictor of breast cancer patient tumor recurrence, metastasis, tamoxifen-resistance, and poor clinical outcome. However, it remains unknown how loss of stromal Cav-1 mediates these effects clinically. To mechanistically address this issue, we h...
