The Ro 60 kDa autoantigen binds misfolded RNAs and likely functions in small RNA quality control. In this issue of Cell, Stein et al. (2005) present crystal structures of Ro alone and bound to both double- and single-stranded RNA, revealing two distinct RNA binding sites that suggest how Ro may distinguish between native and misfolded small RNAs.

While most Radiation Oncology clinics have adopted electronic charting in one form or another, no consensus document exists that provides guidelines for safe and effective use of the medical records (RO-EMR). Task Group 262 was formed to provide these as well recommendations vendors improving functionality future. Guidelines are provided following areas: Implementation training RO-EMR, acceptan...

Brackish water (BW) desalination is a primary path to relieve the shortage of water. As one of the BW desalination methods, reverse osmosis (RO) technology has advantage for both technology and process procedure. The expounding of this research studied or reviewed recent years, reverse osmosis membrane, energy recovery, new energy and application technology in BW desalination of RO at home and ...

Renal oncocytoma (RO) can rarely present with a multilocular or tubulocystic growth pattern that may cause significant diagnostic difficulties with a variety of cystic renal cell carcinomas (RCC). Distinguishing these RO variants from their many RCC mimickers is critical because of its typical benign clinical course. Herein, we report a case of RO with extensive tubulocystic architectures on a ...

Nociceptin/orphanin FQ receptor (NOP) agonists have been reported to produce antinociceptive effects in rhesus monkeys with comparable efficacy to μ-opioid receptor (MOP) agonists, but without their limiting side effects. There are also known to be species differences between rodents and nonhuman primates (NHPs) in the behavioral effects of NOP agonists. The aims of this study were the followin...

We examined the effect of a specific thrombin inhibitor, Ro 46-6240, alone and combined with an antagonist of the platelet GP IIb/IIIa, Ro44-9883, on the response to tissue-type plasminogen activator in a canine model of thrombolysis. Platelet activity was determined by measuring the excretion of 2,3-dinorthromboxane (TX)B2, an enzymatic metabolite of TXA2. Ro 46-6240 administered before tissue...

The novel nonpeptide orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) ligand [(1S,3aS)-8-(2,3,3a,4,5,6-hexahydro-1H-phenalen-1-yl)-1-phenyl-1,3,8-triaza-spiro[4.5]decan-4-one] (Ro 64-6198) was characterized in vitro and in vivo for its agonistic potential. Ro 64-6198 was 130- to 3500-fold selective for the OFQ/N receptor (ORL1) compared with opiate receptors. In the cAMP inhibition assay, Ro 64-6198 was a full a...

BACKGROUND NR2B subunits (NMDA receptor 2B subunit) play an important role in generation of pain and forming central sensitization of pain. Ro 25-6981, a highly selective NR2B antagonist, gained much attention in recent years. In this study, we used a rat model of incisional pain to investigate effects of postoperative analgesia and changes of postoperative hyperalgesia induced by remifentanil ...

The spinal orthosis, the so-called rucksack type orthosis (RO), has been used to relieve low back pain and fatigue during prolonged standing and walking for the elderly with spinal deformities. However, little is known about the RO's kinematical effects. Twenty-three elderly (78.9 +/- 6.9 years old) participated in experiment 1, and 13 elderly (78.4 +/- 7.9 years old) in experiment 2. They had ...
