In an experiment, 200 one-day-old broiler chickens (Ross 308) were used to investigate the effects of sumac fruit (Rhus coriaria L.) powder (SFP) on performance, plasma concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein (LDL-c), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-c) and plasma fasting blood sugar (FBS), as well as proportional ...

Essential heavy metals, as copper, can be toxic for microalgae at high concentrations. Copper affected growth and other parameters closely related to photosynthesis of the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum. A copper concentration of 0.10 mg l provoked about 50% growth reduction and 1 mg linhibited the growth. Copper also interfered with photosynthesis and ATP production. A copper concentr...

Introduction: The natural ecosystems of Iran are the most important origins of speciation in the world and protecting this diversity is of great importance. Sumac species in Bideskan habitat is considered as one of the most important rangeland sub-products that in addition to regional economic prosperity, it provides sustainable employment for villagers and is considered as an important species...

The impact of UV irradiation was studied on photosynthesis, photosystem II photochemical yields and antioxidant responses using green-house grown grapevine (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Chardonnay) leaves. Supplemental UV irradiation (280-400 nm) was centred in the UV-B region, and corresponded to 8.95 kJ m⁻² d⁻¹ global (280-400 nm) or 8.04 kJ m⁻² d⁻¹ UV-B (280-315 nm) biologically effective dose. UV ...

This paper shows that in Porphyridium cruentum and in Chlorella pyrenoidosa (but apparently not in Anacystis nidulans) "extreme red" light (> 720 mmu) can inhibit photosynthesis produced by "far red" light (up to 720 mmu). From the action spectrum of this phenomenon, it appears that an unknown pigment with an absorption band around 745 mmu must be responsible for it.

Plant photosynthesis is considered to consist of photochemical reactions originating from 2 separate pigment systems. Fractionation of the 2 photochemical systems has been demonstrated only recently by detergent treatment of spinach chloroplasts followed by di fferential centri ftugation ( 1, 9). This study shows that the light and heavy fractions obtained by either digitonin or Triton X-100 tr...

An advanced Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) assembly designed to replicate the three key aspects (antenna, reaction center, and quinone pool) of a primary process in natural photosynthesis was successfully fabricated by alternate deposition of a mixed monolayer of an artificial reaction center and an antenna pigment and a pure bilayer of a second donor.

It is difficult to estimate the importance of plant pigments in plant biology. Chlorophylls are the most important pigments, as they are required for photosynthesis. Carotenoids are also necessary for their functions in photosynthesis. Other plant pigments such as flavonoids play a crucial role in the interaction between plants and animals as visual signals for pollination and seed scattering. ...
