Mathematical modeling of technical applications often yields systems of differential algebraic equations. Uncertainties of physical parameters can be considered by the introduction of random variables. A corresponding uncertainty quantification requires one to solve the stochastic model. We focus on semiexplicit systems of nonlinear differential algebraic equations with index 1. The stochastic ...
Many statistical hypotheses can be formulated in terms of polynomial equalities and inequalities in the unknown parameters and thus correspond to semi-algebraic subsets of the parameter space. We consider large sample asymptotics for the likelihood ratio test of such hypotheses in models that satisfy standard probabilistic regularity conditions. We show that the assumptions of Chernoff's theore...
We generalize Gel’fond’s criterion of algebraic independence to the context of a sequence of polynomials whose first derivatives take small values on large subsets of a fixed subgroup of C, instead of just one point (one extension deals with a subgroup of C).
Let $ a_0 (omega), a_1 (omega), a_2 (omega), dots, a_n (omega)$ be a sequence of independent random variables defined on a fixed probability space $(Omega, Pr, A)$. There are many known results for the expected number of real zeros of a polynomial $ a_0 (omega) psi_0(x)+ a_1 (omega)psi_1 (x)+, a_2 (omega)psi_2 (x)+...
We discuss rather systematically the principle, implicit in earlier works, that for a “random” element in an arithmetic subgroup of a (split, say) reductive algebraic group over a number field, the splitting field of the characteristic polynomial, computed using any faitfhful representation, has Galois group isomorphic to the Weyl group of the underlying algebraic group. Besides tools such as t...

A function is called arc-analytic if it is real analytic on each real analytic arc. In real analytic geometry there are many examples of arc-analytic functions that are not real analytic. Arc analytic functions appear while studying the arc-symmetric sets and the blow-analytic equivalence. In this paper we show that the non-analyticity locus of an arc-analytic function is arc-symmetric. We disc...
Design of discrete time diierentiating lters, in presence of coloured noise and non{neglectable transducer dynamics is investigated. The signal and noise are described by ARMA{models, possibly with poles on jzj = 1. The MSE{optimal lter, based on a discrete time approximation of the derivative operator, is given by a spectral factorization and a linear polynomial equation.
For when the Sylvester matrix equation has a unique solution, this work provides a closed form solution, which is expressed as a polynomial of known matrices. In the case of non-uniqueness, the solution set of the Sylvester matrix equation is a subset of that of a deduced equation, which is a system of linear algebraic equations. c © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Example. Let X be an algebraic projective irreducible surface over a field k and let P be a closed point of X , C ⊂ X be an irreducible curve such that P ∈ C . If X and C are smooth at P , then we let t ∈ OX,P be a local equation of C at P and u ∈ OX,P be such that u|C ∈ OC,P is a local parameter at P . Denote by C the ideal defining the curve C near P . Now we can introduce a two-dimensional l...
