Background: Everyone is exposed to radon because it is present everywhere with varying concentrations. Radon and its progeny are well established as lung carcinogenic. Materials and Methods: Track etch technique using LR-115 plastic track detectors has been used to measure the effective radium content and radon exhalation rates in soil samples collected from urban area of Etah district...

The presence of radon in drinking water causes health risks associated with exposure from both inhalation and ingestion. Since the studies show that faults near the water resources have a critical effect on the concentration of radon, Kouhbanan active fault zone, to find water resources  with high radon concentration was chosen for the following investigation. Water samples were taken from all ...

Radon is a gas with symbol Rn and atomic number 86. It’s an active, colorless, odorless, tasteless gas formed from decaying of uranium. It is one of the densest gas, and also a health hazard due to its radioactivity. Uranium is the parent compound from which radon is formed. Uranium has been there since the earth was formed. Thus it will be present for millions of years in the same concentratio...

Although the principal means to confirm indoor radon involves testing buildings, soil-based investigations are of value in identifying land areas that pose special concerns. Ideally, soil-based measurements would relate to radon production, diffusive transport, and convective transport into buildings. This paper briefly reviews technologies for measuring radon in soil gas, radon flux, and soil ...

Assessment of long-term indoor radon concentrations from short-term testing results are of significant importance when radon risk assessment and liability issues are considered. These issues are based on the figure of annual exposure to indoor radon while radon measurement practices are mainly followed the EPA short-term testing protocols. A mathematical framework has been developed that facili...

The relation between Radon transform and orthogonal expansions of a function on the unit ball in R is exploited. A compact formula for the partial sums of the expansion is given in terms of the Radon transform, which leads to algorithms for image reconstruction from Radon data. The relation between orthogonal expansion and the singular value decomposition of the Radon transform is also exploited.

Emanation of radon ( 222 Rn) from granite countertops was measured using continuous and integrating radon monitors, and in air collected from encapsulated pieces of the countertops. A majority of the countertops emitted a measurable amount of radon. Although the granites contained the precursors, no thoron ( 220 Rn) emanation was detected. Gamma-ray spectroscopy was used to determine amounts of...

Radon (RN-222), naturally released from underground, is the second leading cause of lung cancer for at-risk groups after smoking, and the leading cause of lung cancer. This research aims to investigate the relationship between housing characteristics and indoor radon levels. Indoor radon data (1993 – 2013) were obtained from the DeKalb County Board of Health alongside housing characteristics so...

Simultaneous indoor radon, radon-thoron progeny and high-resolution in situ gamma spectrometry measurements, with portable high-purity Ge detector were performed in 26 dwellings of Thessaloniki, the second largest town of Greece, during March 2003-January 2005. The radon gas was measured with an AlphaGUARD ionisation chamber (in each of the 26 dwellings) every 10 min, for a time period between ...

Several case-control studies have indicated an increased risk of lung cancer linked to indoor radon exposure. For a precise evaluation of radon-related lung cancer risk, however, contribution of thoron should be considered. There are a lot of studies in which passive type radon detectors are used without thoron discrimination techniques. Therefore, these passive type radon detectors may be stro...
