We discuss the evolution of aspects of nonmonotonic reasoning towards the computational paradigm of answer-set programming (ASP). We give a general overview of the roots of ASP and follow up with the personal perspective on research developments that helped verbalize the main principles of ASP and differentiated it from the classical logic programming.

The Cedar DBMS is a database management system developed as part of the Cedar programming environment The system has several unusual aspects, including its interface for applications programming in a strongly-typed procedural anguage and its distribution of computation and data over a network. This paper describes the design goals, architecture, and implementation of the Cedar DBMS.

Aspect-oriented programming captures crosscutting concerns by introducing the aspect modularity construct. While most of the aspects presented to date result from domainand modeling-related crosscutting, we show how aspect-oriented programming can further assist the software development process. Through various examples we study the use of aspectoriented methods in third-party system integration.

We propose the notion of visual design pattern (VDP), which is a visual abstraction representing design aspects in parallel dataow programs. VDP serves as a exible and high-level structure of reuse for visual parallel programming. We introduced the support for this notion into the visual parallel programming environment, KLIEG, allowing de nition and use of patterns with simple and easy interface.
