In the last decades, the field of image processing became more and more attractive, sustained by the continuos advance of electrical and computer engineering. The increasing of the computing (processing) power allows to consider successfully various applications. The typical image processing system consists from several different building blocks that performs distinctive tasks. Among them, the ...

The autocatalytic processing of procathepsin L was investigated in vitro using purified recombinant proenzyme expressed in Pichia pastoris. Pure intermolecular processing was studied by incubating the mutant procathepsin L (C25S), which cannot autoactivate with a small amount of mature active cathepsin L. The results clearly establish that, contrary to recent reports, intermolecular processing ...

Discrete linear transformations form important steps in processing information. Many such transformations are injective and therefore are prime candidates for a physically reversible implementation into hardware. We present here the first steps towards a reversible digital implementation of two different integer transformations on four inputs: The Haar wavelet and the H.264 transform.

RNA processing, directed transport along cytoskeletal tracks, and site-specific translation of mRNA at the cell periphery are considered discrete steps in the generation of microfilament-membrane adhesion complexes. A recently identified member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein family, raver1, may couple these steps and contribute to the assembly and maintenance of these structures.

In this paper, we describe a process used for guiding the evaluation and transformation process for language processing research and development. The Integrated Feasibility Experiment process is explained by describing the key six steps, and then providing a specific example to help understand how to implement the steps.

We present a pre-processing strategy including imaging, segmentation, and model reconstruction that is well suited for previously published GPU-accelerated techniques for surgical simulation. In particular we describe these modeling steps as a prerequisite for our virtual open heart surgery simulator. A short description including relevant references is presented for each of the steps.

The combined method of LC-MS/MS is increasingly being used to explore differences in the proteomic composition of complex biological systems. The reliability and utility of such comparative protein expression profiling studies is critically dependent on an accurate and rigorous assessment of quantitative changes in the relative abundance of the myriad of proteins typically present in a biologic...

We describe a proposal of the steps needed to automatically extract the information about healthcare providing activities from an actual EHR at use in a Portuguese Region (Portalegre) to populate an Ontology. We present the steps to manually and further automatically populate using a suggested Software Architecture and the appropriate Natural Language Processing techniques for Portuguese Clinic...

The steps involved in the transformation of Bacillus subtilis are reviewed. These include the initial binding, processing and passage of DNA across the cell wall and transport across the plasma membrane. Our understanding of the roles of the proteins known to be required for these steps is reviewed.

one of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. in this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. in an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. for the procedural semantics, we can write a ...
