Three organoboron functionalized polyoxometalates have been synthesized using Schiff base chemistry including a boronic acid, its methyl ester and its trimethylene glycol ester. Thin films of polyoxometalates that are sensitized with a Ru(II) metallopolymer generate significant photocurrents in the presence of benzyl alcohol and visible light. Significantly, the photocurrent generated by the tungstate based adduct, α-[P(2)W(18)O(62)](6-), is approximately seven fold larger than that found for the Dawson polyoxomolybdate α-[S(2)Mo(18)O(62)](4-).

A crown-shaped organic-inorganic hybrid polyoxomolybdate, Na5[H7{N(CH2PO3)3}Mo6O16(OH) (H2O)4]4·18H2O (1) has been presented and characterized. Such an intriguing structure consists of a 24-molybdenum-membered polyanion constructed by organotriphosphonate ligands, which represents the highest nuclearity of metal atoms in the area of organophosphonate-based polyoxometalates.
