Linked polyamides bind in the minor groove of double-stranded DNA in a partially sequence-specific manner. This report analyzes the theoretical limits of DNA sequence discrimination by linked polyamides composed of two to four different types of heterocyclic rings, determining (i) the optimal choice of base-binding specificity for each ring and (ii) the optimal design for a polyamide composed o...

Means to cause an immunogenic cell death could lead to significant insight into how cancer escapes immune control. In this study, we screened a library of five pyrrole-imidazole polyamides coding for different DNA sequences in a model of B-cell lymphoma for the upregulation of surface calreticulin, a pro-phagocytosis signal implicated in immunogenic cell death. We found that hairpin polyamide 1...

The title compound, C(13)H(16)N(3)O(+)·PF(6) (-), which has an imide group in the imidazolium cation, is a new ionic liquid above its melting point. Two neighbouring mol-ecules are connected by a weak non-classical C-H⋯O hydrogen bond with the formation of centrosymmetric 14-membered dimers.

Crystalline samples of three N-aroyl-1,2,4-dithiazolidine-3,5-diones have been prepared as the first examples of a novel class of compound that displays the reactivity of an acyl isocyanate when treated with nucleophiles.

In the title compound, CH3OC(O)NHP(O)(OCH3)2, the P atom has a slightly distorted tetra-hedral configuration. The mixed imide moiety can be described as cisoid-transoid in which the two opposing dipoles (P=O and C=O) are oriented with a O=C⋯P=O torsion angle of 150.88(18)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers.

The title compound, C(33)H(3)F(20)N(3)O(4), is a highly fluorinated organic imide that was isolated as an unexpected product from the reaction of 2,6-diamino-pyridine with 2,3,4,5,6-penta-fluoro-benzoyl chloride in a 1:2 molar ratio. The mol-ecule is located on a twofold axis and one of its symmetry-independent 2,3,4,5,6-penta-fluoro-benzoyl groups is disordered over two sets of sites, the occu...

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and solid-state 15N nuclear magnetic resonance (15N-NMR) spectroscopies were used to characterize the structure and relative strength of the interactions between metal sulfonate and amide groups in blends of lightly sulfonated polystyrene ionomers and an N-methylated polyamide, poly(N,N′-dimethylethylene sebacamide), and ...

Hairpin pyrrole-imidazole (Py-Im) polyamides are a class of cell-permeable DNA-binding small molecules that can disrupt transcription factor-DNA binding and regulate endogenous gene expression. The covalent linkage of antiparallel Py-Im ring pairs with an gamma-amino acid turn unit affords the classical hairpin Py-Im polyamide structure. Closing the hairpin with a second turn unit yields a cycl...

Regulation of endogenous genes by DNA-binding polyamides requires effective nuclear localization. Previous work employing confocal microscopy to study uptake of fluorophore-labeled polyamides has demonstrated the difficulty of predicting a priori the nuclear uptake of a given polyamide. The data suggest that dye identity influences uptake sufficiently such that a dye-conjugate cannot be used as...

Changes in the transport parameters and the chemical nature of the surface of composite polyamide/polysulfone membranes due to both aging and treatment with chemical products (HCl, H(3)NO, and NaOH) have been considered. Hydraulic and salt permeability were obtained from water flow and salt diffusion measurements, respectively, and their values seem to indicate a modification in the structural ...
