Tubular aluminophosphate molecular sieve crystals were grown at an organic interface with their channels (7 angstroms in cross section) vertical to the substrate. To induce surface nucleation and oriented growth of AIPO(4)-5 crystals, organophosphonate layers cross-linked with Zr(IV) were assembled on a gold substrate and the modified substrate was immersed in a hydrothermal bath containing rea...

Two new Co(ii)-Cr(iii) phosphonate clusters with [Co(II)(4)Cr(III)(4)] and [Co(II)(8)Cr(III)(4)] cores have been synthesized by a displacement reaction from a pre-formed heterometallic carboxylate cage. Magnetic studies show overall antiferromagnetic interactions are present in these clusters.

Microdroplets show unique chemistry, especially in their intrinsic redox properties, and to this we here add a case of simultaneous spontaneous oxidation reduction. We report the concurrent conversions several phosphonates phosphonic acids by reduction (R?P ? H?P) pentavalent phosphoric oxidation. The experimental results suggest that active reagent is water radical cation/anion pair. cation ob...

A chiral phosphine catalyzes the addition of a carbon nucleophile to the gamma position of an electron-poor allene (amide-, ester-, or phosphonate-substituted), in preference to isomerization to a 1,3-diene, in good ee and yield. This strategy provides an attractive method for the catalytic asymmetric gamma functionalization of carbonyl (and related) compounds.

New phosphonate/acetate-substituted titanium oxo/alkoxo clusters were prepared from Ti(OiPr)4 and bis(trimethylsilyl) phosphonates in the presence of acetic acid, which served to generate water in situ through ester formation. The process led to clusters with a higher degree of condensation than in previously known phosphonate-substituted titanium oxo clusters. The clusters [Ti6O4(OiPr)10(OAc)2...

A convenient synthesis of 3,4-didehydroretinal was developed. The Horner-Emmons reaction between 3,4-didehydro-beta-ionone and diphenyl phosphonate in the presence of crown ether gave the retinonitrile as an isomeric mixture, in which the newly produced double bond was predominantly 11Z-form. After separation of the 11Z-form retinonitrile, it was converted into the corresponding retinal in good...

This article focuses on high valence 3p and transition metal based metal organic frameworks. In the first part we will discuss the complex solution chemistry of these metals which makes this sub-class of MOFs more of a challenge than the traditional low valence metal based MOFs. This is followed by a short review of the different classes of solids based on phosphonates, carboxylates and other l...
