Phosphine resistance in stored-product insects occurs worldwide and is a major challenge to continued effective use of this fumigant. We determined resistance frequencies and levels of resistance in Tribolium castaneum and Plodia interpunctella collected from California almond storage and processing facilities. Discriminating doses of phosphine were established for eggs and larvae of P. interpu...
Tridentate amine-imine-phosphine ligands, R2PC5H7NC2H4NEt2 [(R)PNN(H)], where R = Pr(i) or Bu(t) are synthesized using a straightforward protocol of condensation, deprotonation, and addition of a chlorodialkylphosphine. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopy shows the ligands exist exclusively in the enamine tautomeric form in solution. Treating these ligands with RuHCl(PPr(i)3)2(CO) forms the desired c...
terconversion of branched alkyl (a) and linear acyl ( f ) species, which is consistent with the observations made above. Thus by modifying the microstructure of the liquid assembly, through the addition of surface active agents and the polarity of the organic solvent, it is possible to effect high selectivities to total aldehydes. Other features which make this system attractive are that high n...
In carbon dioxide utilization by cyclometalated five-membered ring products, the following compounds are used in four types of applications: 1. 2-Phenylpyrazole iridium compounds, pincer phosphine iridium compounds and 2-phenylimidazoline iridium compounds are used as catalysts for both formic acid production from CO2 and H2, and hydrogen production from the formic acid. This formic acid can be...
A mild method for the facile removal of phosphine oxide from the crude products of Wittig and Appel reactions is described. Work-up with oxalyl chloride to generate insoluble chlorophosphonium salt (CPS) yields phosphorus-free products for a wide variety of these reactions. The CPS product can be further converted into phosphine.
Phosphine-catalyzed [2 + 4] annulation of allenoates with thiazolone-derived alkenes has been achieved under mild conditions, giving biologically important 6,7-dihydro-5H-pyrano[2,3-d]thiazole derivatives in high to excellent yields. With the use of Kwon's phosphine as the chiral catalyst, optically active products were obtained in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities.
Copper(I) halides are employed as ‘phosphine sponges’ to sequester phosphor-ylides when using phosphine-based Grubb’s metathesis catalysis in polar protic solvents and under heat. These cuprous halides are hypothesized to significantly slow the formation of the ruthenium hydride olefin isomerization catalyst. We demonstrate their use in both cross metathesis and ring-closing metathesis.
Solid-state NMR spectroscopy of selected phosphine oxides adsorbed on silica surfaces establishes the surface mobilities, even of phosphine oxides with high melting points. Crystal structures of the adducts Ph3 PO⋅HOSiPh3 and Cy3 PO⋅H2 O indicate that the interactions with silica involve hydrogen bonding of the P=O group to adsorbed water and surface silanol groups.
Carbonyl ylides are generally non-isolable reactive intermediates and have been extensively utilized as the dipole in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions with electron-deficient and electron-rich dipolarophiles to afford polycyclic compounds including five-membered oxacycles. The most efficient method for generating the carbonyl ylide is the interaction of a metal carbene complex with the oxyge...
Organosilanes bearing a phosphine imide moiety were synthesized and crystallographically characterized. Reaction of the pentacoordinated hydrodiphenylsilyl derivative with water gave [2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]diphenylsilanol accompanied by both reduction of the phosphine imide moiety and hydrolytic oxidation of the Si-H moiety.
