Phononic crystals are well known for acoustic wave manipulation which may have potential application in an underwater detection system. In this work, we design and simulate a two-dimensional Luneburg lens based on gradient-index (GRIN) phononic crystal that is composed of PLA-Air inclusion, novel GRIN proposed to sound localization. The has broadband working range, from 1500 Hz 7500 Hz, focusin...
Acoustic waves can manipulate particles without contact or damage, and has received increasing attention due to their potential applications in various fields, such as cell sorting, organoid construction, material assembly. In general, high-throughput manipulation of microparticles relies on a large number active transducers phase-shifting circuits create standing wave patterns, thus significan...
Abstract: There are two classes of phononic structures that can support elastic waves with non-conventional topology, namely intrinsic and extrinsic systems. The non-conventional topology of elastic wave results from breaking time reversal symmetry (T-symmetry) of wave propagation. In extrinsic systems, energy is injected into the phononic structure to break T-symmetry. In intrinsic systems sym...
The phononic band structure of two binary colloidal crystals, at hypersonic frequencies, is studied by means of Brillouin light scattering and analyzed in conjunction with corresponding dispersion diagrams of the single colloidal crystals of the constituent particles. Besides the acoustic band of the average medium, the authors' results show the existence of narrow bands originating from resona...
In this paper, a new algorithm for studying elastic wave propagation in the phononic crystals is presented. At first, the displacement-based forms of elastic wave equations are derived and then the forms are discretized using finite difference method. So the new algorithm is called the displacement-based finite difference time domain (DBFDTD). Three numerical examples are computed with this met...
This work experimentally studied locally resonant absorption mechanism in phononic glass. From these results, we attributed its strong sound attenuation to its locally resonant units and its broadband absorption to its networked structure. These experiments also indicated that the porosity of the phononic glass must be tuned to achieve the best sound absorption at given frequencies.
In this paper we present inelastic X-ray scattering experiments in a diamond anvil cell and molecular dynamic simulations to investigate the behavior of phononic excitations in liquid Ar. The spectra calculated using molecular dynamics were found to be in a good agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, we observe that, upon temperature increases, a low-frequency transverse phononic ga...
