A phenomenological model for the nucleon structure functions is presented. Visualising the nucleon as a cavity filled with parton gas in equilibrium and parametrizing the effects due to the finiteness of the nucleon volume, we obtain a good fit to the data on the structure function F p 2 . The model then successfully predicts other unpolarized structure function data. PACS: 13.60.Hb, 12.40.Ee

Broad-band spectra of accreting X–ray binary pulsars can be fit by a phenomenological model composed by a power law with a high energy rollover above 10 keV, plus a blackbody component with a temperature of few hundred eV. While, at least qualitatively, the hard tail can be explained in terms of (inverse) Compton scattering, the origin of the soft component cannot find a unique explanation. Rec...

Many organizations fail in implementing software process improvement by use of Capability Maturity Model (CMM) frameworks. Ciborra has argued that frameworks of this kind make managers confuse the real with the ideal, suggesting an alternative path towards improvement based on phenomenology, emphasising values like care, hospitality and cultivation. The hypothesis in this research is that there...

Abstract. Currently, experts from IT industry are closely monitoring the soaring total volume of digital data. Moreover the problem is not purely technical, it directly affects human civilization as a whole. The growth rate of the all increasing and is already very large. Began is actively appear apocalyptic scenarios of development IT technology, and humanity as a whole. In this paper we propo...

While the existing thermomechanical constitutive models can predict the behavior of SMAactuated systems in most cases, in this study, we have shown that there are certain situations in which these models are not able to predict the behavior of SMAs. To this end, a rotary SMA-actuated robotic arm is modeled using the existing constitutive models. The model is verified against the experimental re...

Kudekar et al. proved an interesting result in low-density parity-check (LDPC) convolutional codes: The belief-propagation (BP) threshold is boosted to the maximum-a-posteriori (MAP) threshold by spatial coupling. Furthermore, the authors showed that the BP threshold for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems is improved up to the optimal one via spatial coupling. In this letter, a phenom...

Using a phenomenological model, we discuss the consequences of spinon-holon binding in the Us1d slaveboson approach to t-J model in the weak-coupling limit. We find that spinon-holon binding produces a pseudogap normal state with a segmented Fermi surface and the superconducting state is formed by opening an “additional” d-wave gap on the segmented Fermi surface. The d-wave gap merges with the ...
