Aims: The aim of the study was to analyse ETG in hair samples treated by a hair straightener. Methods: Positive EtG hair samples were treated with hair straightener during 1 min at 200°C. Treated and non treated hair were analysed for EtG by GC/MS-NICI after solid phase extraction and heptafluorobutyric anhydride derivatization . Results: In 11 samples an average decrease was found 24% and in 5...

Treatment was provided for the hair pulling and hair manipulation of a 19-year-old woman (Kris) diagnosed with mental retardation across multiple settings in her home. Treatment probes conducted prior to our formal treatment evaluation indicated that hair pulling was suppressed when Kris wore either a 2.5-1b wrist weight or a golf glove. However, these interventions did not produce sustained re...

Sterigmatobotrys macrocarpa is a conspicuous, lignicolous, dematiaceous hyphomycete with macronematous, penicillate conidiophores with branches or metulae arising from the apex of the stipe, terminating with cylindrical, elongated conidiogenous cells producing conidia in a holoblastic manner. The discovery of its teleomorph is documented here based on perithecial ascomata associated with fertil...

Introduction: It has been shown that low levels of pigmentation increase susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss in humans. For this reason, white populations develop more pronounced noise- induced hearing loss in comparison to black populations. Similarly, blue-eyed individuals exhibit greater temporary threshold shift than brown-eyed subjects; still, no strong correlation has been veri...

Background: Hair follicle cycling usually associated with prominent changes in skin vascularization; through follicular dermal papilla production of angiogenic factors. The early response of hair follicles to ionizing irradiation (IR) is induction of early anagen hair and appearance of new hair formation. Material and Method: Fifty rats were equally divided into 2 groups; control and γ-rays (10...

Loss of sensory hair cells of the inner ear due to aminoglycoside exposure is a major cause of hearing loss. Using an immortalized multipotent otic progenitor (iMOP) cell line, specific signaling pathways that promote otic cell survival were identified. Of the signaling pathways identified, the PI3K pathway emerged as a strong candidate for promoting hair cell survival. In aging animals, compon...

We have used time-lapse imaging to study cisplatin-induced hair cell death in lateral line neuromasts of zebrafish larvae in vivo. We found that cisplatin-induced hair cell death occurred much more slowly than had been shown to occur in aminoglycoside-induced hair cell death. By prelabeling hair cells with FM1-43FX, and assessing hair cell damage, it was established that cisplatin causes hair c...

Methanolic extract of Elephantopus scaber leaves was investigated for its role in hair growth in experimental rats. The 2% and 5% solution of prepared formulation using methanolic extract was studied for hair growth on wistar rats for 30 days. Minoxidil (2% solution) was taken as a reference standard. The prepared hair oil formulation of methanolic extract significantly (p<0.01) potentiated the...

The in vitro hair perforation test for dermatophytes was evaluated with hair from males and females aged 6 months to 67 years, including hair of various natural colors and hair which had been bleached, tinted, curled, sprayed, or subjected to various combinations of these treatments. In contrast to published recommendations, the source of hair had no effect on this diagnostic procedure.
