This paper1 describes a novel approach to the task of realization ranking, i.e. the choice among competing paraphrases for a given input semantics, as produced by a generation system. We also introduce a notion of symmetric treebanks, which we define as the combination of (a) a set of pairings of surface forms and associated semantics plus (b) the sets of alternative analyses for the surface fo...

In this paper, we propose a paraphrasing model to address the task of system combination for machine translation. We dynamically learn hierarchical paraphrases from target hypotheses and form a synchronous context-free grammar to guide a series of transformations of target hypotheses into fused translations. The model is able to exploit phrasal and structural system-weighted consensus and also ...

Baker (Mind 114:223–238, 2005; Brit J Philos Sci 60:611–633, 2009) has recently defended what he calls the “enhanced” version of the indispensability argument for mathematical Platonism. In this paper I demonstrate that the nominalist can respond to Baker’s argument. First, I outline Baker’s argument in more detail before providing a nominalistically acceptable paraphrase of prime-number talk. ...

Paraphrase generation in any language has gained much attention and importance in the study of Natural Language Processing. Therefore, the focus of this paper is on Thai language paraphrase generation for the sentence level. Six sentence paraphrasing techniques for Thai are proposed and illustratively explained. In addition, the Thai–sentence Paraphrase Generation (TPG) system is designed using...

Refactoring is the process of changing the structure of a program without changing its behaviour. Refactoring has so far only really been deployed effectively for sequential programs. However, with the increased availability of multicore (and, soon, manycore) systems, refactoring can play an important role in helping both expert and non-expert parallel programmers structure and implement their ...

Existing studies on semantic parsing mainly focus on the in-domain setting. We formulate cross-domain semantic parsing as a domain adaptation problem: train a semantic parser on some source domains and then adapt it to the target domain. Due to the diversity of logical forms in different domains, this problem presents unique and intriguing challenges. By converting logical forms into canonical ...

In this paper we propose an approach to corpus-based generation in a machine translation framework that is similar to shake & bake (Whitelock, 1992). A bag of words is mapped against an automatically induced TL template grammar and a sentence is generated by recursively applying rules that are extracted from the template grammar. A test version of the template grammar is enriched with further l...

We increase the lexical coverage of FrameNet through automatic paraphrasing. We use crowdsourcing to manually filter out bad paraphrases in order to ensure a high-precision resource. Our expanded FrameNet contains an additional 22K lexical units, a 3-fold increase over the current FrameNet, and achieves 40% better coverage when evaluated in a practical setting on New York Times data.

This paper describes OpenLogos, a rule-driven machine translation system, and the syntactic-semantic taxonomy SAL that underlies this system. We illustrate how SAL addresses typical problems relating to source language analysis and target language synthesis. The adaptation of OpenLogos resources to a specific application concerning paraphrasing in Portuguese is also described here. References a...

A machine translation model has been proposed where an input is translated through both source-language and target-language paraphrasing processes. We have implemented our prototype model for the Japanese-Chinese language pair. This paper describes our core idea of translation, where a source language paraphraser and a language transfer cooperates in translation by exchanging information about ...
