OBJECTIVE This article compares various imaging aspects of magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT) of heterotopic ossification (HO) in the pelvic soft tissues in paraplegic patients. Our aim is to highlight the benefits of integrating MR and CT imaging in the diagnosis of immature HO, which may be challenging with MR images alone. METHODS Paraplegic patients examined on the same ...

A patient is described with bronchial carcinoid and ossification in the surrounding bronchial wall. The osseous metaplasia was the only histologic abnormality discovered in bronchial biopsy specimens taken pre-operatively. We propose that underlying bronchial carcinoid tumour should be considered in isolated bronchial or bronchopulmonary ossification.

INTRODUCTION It is common for leiomyoma to undergo various secondary changes like hyaline degeneration, cystic change, myxoid degeneration, infection, necrosis, calcification, red degeneration and very rarely ossification. They are said to result from inadequate blood supply resulting in replacement of muscle fibres by hyaline material, collagen, calcium, mucopolysaccharides or a combination of...

A skeletal survey showed enchondroma-like metaphyseal dysplasia and ossification of the spinal ligaments. Magnetic resonance imaging of the spine further clarified the pathological composites. CASE PRESENTATION A 7-year-old girl presented with the classical phenotypic features...

The extensive literature dealing with radiographic changes in bones during normal development is concerned principally with the time at which epiphysial centres appear and the ages at which they fuse with the diaphyses. Little attention has been paid to the appearance and form of these epiphyses soon after they have become radio-opaque. This paper directs attention to the frequent occurrence of...

We evaluated the results of surgical treatment for ankylosis of the elbow due to posttraumatic heterotopic ossification. METHODS The study included seven patients (6 males, 1 female; mean age 36 years; range 23 to 55 years) who developed heterotopic o...

A 49-year-old woman presented with a 30-year history of asymptomatic plaque on her right temple. The histological examination revealed nests of nevus cells throughout the entire dermis. Bony spicules were seen just beneath the nevus cell nests in the lower dermis. Cutaneous ossification is an unusual event. Herein, we present a case of intradermal melanocytic nevus with unusual ossification (ne...
