The isotopic composition of mercury (Hg) was determined in cinnabar ore, mine-waste calcine (retorted ore), and leachates obtained from water leaching experiments of calcine from two large Hg mining districts in the U.S. This study is the first to report significant mass-dependent Hg isotopic fractionation between cinnabar ore and resultant calcine. Data indicate that delta202Hg values relative...

This study investigates an unusual source of environmental lead contamination - the emission and deposition of lead and zinc concentrates along train lines into and out of Australia's oldest silver-lead-zinc mine at Broken Hill, Australia. Transport of lead and zinc ore concentrates from the Broken Hill mines has occurred for more than 125 years, during which time the majority was moved in unco...

Various blending functions can be applied in the volumetric modelling of clouds. This paper analyzes the impact of five different blending functions (linear, cubic, Wyvill-1, Wyvill-2, and cosine) on cloud shape, structure, and area. We have found that there are only negligible differences among them. Therefore, we can conclude that the simple linear blending function satisfies all the desired ...

Information systems change initiatives often represent the single largest investment (and therefore risk) for large corporations yet there exist few management frameworks in the literature to help decision makers measure risk during this organization-wide change process. The Organization Risk Evaluation (ORE) framework has been developed based on the design science paradigm as a multicriteria, ...

Hydrothermal processes in the Earth’s crust can result in ore deposits characterized by high concentrations of metals with fractal or multifractal properties. This paper shows that stream sediments in the neighborhoods of ore deposits also can have singular properties for ore-mineral and associated toxic trace elements. We propose a new local singularity mapping method for assembling element co...

This paper presents an experimental study on the dissolution kinetics and solvent extraction of total gold from Ijero-ekiti (Nigeria) gold ore deposit by hydrochloric acid leaching followed by extraction with Tributylphosphate (TBP) in kerosene. The leaching investigation showed that the gold ore dissolution in HCl solution increases with increasing acid concentration, temperature and with decr...

Reporter gene analysis of two regions of the human factor VII (FVII) gene promoter (residues -658 to -1 and -348 to -1, where +1 is the start site of translation) in the mammalian liver-derived cell line HepG2 showed reduced transcriptional activity in the presence of oestrogenic factors. This effect was independent of promoter polymorphic haplotype. Similar analysis using a smaller region of t...

X-ray diffraction (XRD) can provide useful information about the composition of an ore sample in terms of quantification of crystalline phases and also amorphous content. XRD is also a powerful technique for studying substitutional solid solutions that can affect mining productivity, such as determining lattice bound aluminum in Goethite. Knowledge of the phases present can predict processing r...

Mine valuation can be defined as the process of determining the worth of a specific mineral deposit and capability of making a return by a prospective investment (SME, 2005). Although the definition is very brief and compact, actually, it has a very wide content. Determination of worth of an underground asset requires a plenty of works to explain physical, structural and economical properties o...

Polynomial maps attached to polynomials of an Ore extension are naturally defined. In this setting we show the importance of pseudo-linear transformations and give some applications. In particular, factorizations of polynomials in an Ore extension over a finite field Fq[t; θ], where θ is the Frobenius automorphism, are translated into factorizations in the usual polynomial ring Fq[x].
