application of polymers in novel and advanced scientific technologies is increasingly expanding. in this regard, optical polymers among different materials have found a special and unique position. a novel dye doped polymer thin film was prepared by taking advantage of dye molecules' interaction with the host environment. this sample, like self-assembled structures, makes use of this inter...

We report the demonstration of a reflection microscope that operates at 13.2 nm wavelength with a spatial resolution of 55+/-3 nm. The microscope uses illumination from a tabletop extreme ultraviolet laser to acquire aerial images of photolithography masks with a 20 s exposure time. The modulation transfer function of the optical system was characterized.

The quality of the image produced by optical reflectarrays as a function of the F/#, polarization, and wavelength is analyzed in this paper. The results are expressed as monochromatic and polychromatic modulation transfer functions. They show that large aperture multilevel reflectarrays perform quite close to the diffraction-limited case. The chromatic aberrations make these elements highly wav...

This work includes using two-flow and full radiative transfer models to evaluate the conditions under which subsurface optical structure is detectable, and to develop an inversion model to determine the vertical structure of the IOP based on the presence of horizontal gradients in the spectral reflectance. We are also examining the role of the volume scattering function in determining the measu...

We report on the first fabrication of ~In,Ga!As/GaAs quantum dots with both vertical and lateral ordering forming a three-dimensional array. An investigation of the photoluminescence spectra from the ordered array of quantum dots, as a function of both temperature and optical excitation intensity, reveals both a lateral and vertical transfer of excitation. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. ...

The knowledge of the theoretical principles of image formation is crucial for understanding what we observe in transmission electron microscope. Two processes mainly determine the image contrast: the electron interaction with specimen and the electron-optical imaging process including the microscope aberrations. Multislice calculation and contrast transfer function are main tools used for inter...

This paper presents a method for approximating a class of complex transfer function matrices corresponding to physically realizable complex linear quantum systems. The class of linear quantum systems under consideration includes interconnections of passive optical components such as cavities, beam-splitters, phaseshifters and interferometers. This approximation method builds on a previous resul...

Direct volume-rendering has proven to be an effective and flexible visualization method for 3D scalar fields. Transfer functions are fundamental to direct volume-rendering because their role is essentially to make the data visible: by assigning optical properties like color and opacity to the voxel data, the volume can be rendered with traditional computer graphics methods. Good transfer functi...
