Monitoring of pink salmon ( Oncorhynchus gorbuscha ) migration to the estuaries and spawning grounds in rivers southeastern southwestern Sakhalin, including Aniva Bay, was conducted summer 2022 using a no-tipping technique with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Abilities, advantages disadvantages UAV use for such surveys are discussed provide scientific basis improved management fishery Far East ...

The ovarian, or coelomic, fluid that is released with the egg mass of many fishes is increasingly found to play an important role in several biological processes crucial for reproductive success. These include maintenance of oocyte fertility and developmental competence, prolonging of sperm motility, and enhancing sperm swimming speed. Here we examined if and how the proteome of chinook salmon ...

For some salmon populations, the individual and population effects of sea lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) transmission from sea cage salmon farms is probably mediated by predation, which is a primary natural source of mortality of juvenile salmon. We examined how sea lice infestation affects predation risk and mortality of juvenile pink (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) and chum (O. keta) salmon, and dev...

Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) from Lakes Ontario, Michigan, Erie, or Huron were found to suffer epizootics of thyroid hyperplasia and goiters which appeared to have an environmental etiology. There were 13-fold differences in goiter prevalence within the Great Lakes, and the differences in goiter frequency were correlated with the degree of thy...

Diphyllobothriosis is reemerging because of global importation and increased popularity of eating raw fish. We detected Diphyllobothrium nihonkaiense plerocercoids in the musculature of wild pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) from Alaska, USA. Therefore, salmon from the American and Asian Pacific coasts and elsewhere pose potential dangers for persons who eat these fish raw.

This work shows that the atypical erythrocytes in triploid rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were morphologically similar to those of toads. The nuclei of the cells can be bell-shaped, constricted or irregular. It is presumed that such nuclear division is probably amitosis.

Genetic crosses of alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (alpha-GPDH) phenotypes in the pink salmon, Oncorhynchus gorbuscha (Walbaum), reveal that this enzyme is encoded by a single locus with two codominant alleles (Slow and Fast). The significance of single gene control of alpha-GPDH is discussed in relation to the purported tetraploid nature of the salmonids.

The genome sequence of Flavobacterium psychrophilum strain CSF259-93, isolated from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), consists of a single circular genome of 2,900,735 bp and 2,701 predicted open reading frames (ORFs). Strain CSF259-93 has been used to select a line of rainbow trout with increased genetic resistance against bacterial cold water disease.
