We give criteria for the asymptotic stability and boundedness of solutions to the nonlinear fourth-order ordinary differential equation x + φ(ẍ) ... x + f(x, ẋ)ẍ + g(ẋ) + h(x) = p(t, x, ẋ, ẍ, ... x ) , when p ≡ 0 and when p 6= 0. Our results include and improve some well-known results in the literature.

The group classification of generalized Emden-Fowler equations of the mentioned class is done. TheWDVV equations of associativity arising in twodimensional topological field theory can be represented, in the simplest nontrivial case, by a single third order equation of the MongeAmpère type.
