Rabbits orally challenged with Salmonella enterica developed a dose-dependent diarrheal disease comparable to human salmonellosis. Viable Salmonella organisms recovered from the intestine and deep tissues indicate local and systemic infections. Therefore, results show that the rabbit can be used as a model for diarrheal disease and sequelae associated with salmonellosis.

background: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of local injection of human growth hormone (gh) in stimulating cartilage and bone formation in a rabbit model of temporomandibular joint (tmj). materials and methods: in an experimental animal study, 16 male albino new zealand white rabbits aged 12 weeks were divided into two groups: in the fi rst group (7 rabbits) 2 mg/kg/1 ml human ...

In conscious animals, the response to hemorrhage is biphasic. During phase 1, arterial pressure is maintained. Phase 2 is characterized by profound hypotension. Despite allied roles, less is known about the integrated cardiovascular and respiratory response to blood loss in conscious animals. We evaluated cardiorespiratory changes during hemorrhage to test the hypotheses that 1) respiratory rat...

IMPORTANCE Electromechanical reshaping (EMR) is a low-cost, needle-based, and simple means to shape cartilage tissue without the use of scalpels, sutures, or heat that can potentially be used in an outpatient setting to perform otoplasty. OBJECTIVES To demonstrate that EMR can alter the shape of intact pinnae in an in vivo animal model and to show that the amount of shape change and the limit...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS To demonstrate the dosimetry effect of electromechanical reshaping (EMR) on cartilage shape change, structural integrity, cellular viability, and remodeling of grafts in an in vivo long-term animal model. STUDY DESIGN Animal study. METHODS A subperichondrial cartilaginous defect was created within the base of the pinna of 31 New Zealand white rabbits. Autologous costal...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, platinum coils often fail to elicit a fibrotic response. We tested the hypothesis that a new, collagen-based endovascular coil would improve angiographic and histologic outcomes as compared with those achieved with platinum coils in a rabbit model of saccular aneurysms. METHODS Elastase-induced aneurysms were created in 12 New Zea...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In vivo panoramic imaging of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH), intracellular brain pH (pHi), and cortical blood flow was used to characterize the ischemic penumbra during focal ischemia. During global ischemia, hypoxia, and status epilepticus, the development of cortical acidic foci has been observed. The hypothesis tested was that during focal ischemia, a...

objective(s):antibodies against actin, as one of the most widely studied structural and multifunctional housekeeping proteins in eukaryotic cells, are used as internal loading controls in western blot analyses. the aim of this study was to produce polyclonal antibody against a synthetic peptide derived from n-terminal region of β-actin protein to be used as a protein loading control in western ...

Acute mechanical injury of an artery results in neointimal hyperplasia that is due at least in part to cell proliferation within the vessel wall. The purpose of this study was to quantify cell proliferation activity in the iliac artery of New Zealand White rabbits after balloon injury and cholesterol feeding. Retrograde pullback balloon injury of iliac arteries was performed, and the animals we...
