Four novel complexes [Co(H2O)4(sul)2] 1, [Co(2-ampy)2(sul)2] 2, [Co(H2O)2(1,10-phen) (sul)2] 3 and [Co(2,9-dimephen)(sul)2] 4 (sul = sulindac, 2-ampy = 2-amino pyridine, 1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,9-dimeph = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) were prepared and characterized by IR, UV-Visible spectroscopy and magnetic properties. The crystal structures of complexes 1 and 4 were determi...
Background and Aim: In recent years study of medicinal plants in order to discover new pharmaceutical supplies against microbial strains has been considered very much. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of shoot aqueous and ethanolic extracts of purple coneflower against some gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Methods:This experi...
NM394 is a new 6-fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent with a tricyclic structure which has a bridge that connects the N-1 and C-2 positions of the quinolone. The antibacterial activity of NM394 against clinical isolates of staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci, members of the family Enterobacteriaceae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was equal to or one-half that of ciprofloxacin. NM394 was as act...
Gingivitis is an inflammatory destructive disease mainly caused by microbial plaques. Gram-positive and gram-negative bacilli or cocci have been isolated from dental plaque and gingivitis. This study was going to isolate and characterize the pathogenic bacteria from gingival of 100 patients with oral gingivitis. Enriched and specific media used for isolation of bacteria. Identification of isola...
Ciprofloxacin analogs with various substitutions on the piperazine nitrogen were tested against several mycobacteria. In contrast to what has been found with other gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, alkyl analogs such as N-isopropylciprofloxacin were shown to be significantly more active than ciprofloxacin. MICs of 0.125 microgram/ml against Mycobacterium tuberculosis were found.
The in vitro activity of chephaloridine, cephalexin, cefatrizine (BL-S640), and cephapirin (BL-P-1322) was evaluated by the serial dilution method against pathogenic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria isolated from bovine udders and neonatal calf diseases. Cephapirin showed the comparatively greatest activity against the most common streptococcal species associated with bovine mastitis, w...
