Velogenic Newcastle disease virus (NDV) was recovered from two dead Eurasian Scops Owls (Otus scops) from a wildlife rescue center in Korea during 2005. Phylogenetic analysis based on the sequence of the partial fusion (F) protein revealed that the isolates had the highest level of homology to recent Korean NDV strains from poultry.
In 2000, three Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains were isolated from outbreaks of infection in layers, ducklings, and geese in the same region of China during the same time period. Here, we report their complete genome sequences, which belong to the NDV genotype VIId. This discovery might provide clues as to the evolution of the NDVs of different avian origins.
Goose/GD/2010 is a newly emerging Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolated from a sick goose flock in southern China. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of this isolate, which belongs to NDV subgenotype VIIb. This is the first report about the complete genome information of an isolate of subgenotype VIIb in China.
To our knowledge, our study is the first to report the whole-genome sequence of an ostrich-origin Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolate, abbreviated as Ostrich/SX-01/06. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that this isolate belongs to the subgenotype c in class II. The identification of the complete genome will provide useful information regarding ostrich diseases, especially NDV.
The nucleotide sequences of the fusion (F) and haemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) glycoprotein genes of the extremely avirulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strain Ulster have been determined by sequencing cDNA clones derived from viral genomic RNA. Open reading frames, assumed to encode the F0 and HN0 glycoprotein precursors, were 553 and 616 amino acids long, respectively. Comparisons of the ...
Wild birds are considered to be the natural reservoir of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) and Avian Influenza virus (AI) and are often suspected to be involved in outbreaks in domesticated birds. The objective of the present study was to determine ND and AI infection in migratory birds in the south of Iran in order to detect the possible source of these viruses to domestic poultry. A total of 443 ...
A reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to amplify 1412 bp of the fusion protein gene (F gene) of four Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolates; two velogenic (TY-1/90 and DIK-90) and two lentogenic isolates (Dongla 88/1 and GD.S.1). Following sequencing, nucleotide sequences were annotated and 894 bp were compared phylogenetically with those from strains previously re...
The agglutination-separation (AS) reactions estimate the effects of heat on the release of altered Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and HN glycoprotein spikes from red blood cells (RBC) sensitized with NDV (SRBC), the inactivations of the neuraminidase (NA), then the haemagglutinin (HA) in a direct assay. Heating SRBC for 1.5 min at 56 degrees C inactivated the NA by 50%; after 4.5 min no separati...
Free-range rural chickens (FRCs) dominate the poultry industry in developing countries and chickens are exposed to multi-host infections, including Newcastle disease virus (NDV). The knowledge about the characteristics of NDV from FRCs is limited. This study investigated the persistence, spread and risks of NDV from FRCs. NDV isolates (n = 21) from unvaccinated FRCs in Tanzania were charact...
Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and Salmonella Pullorum have significant damaging effects on the poultry industry, but no previous vaccine can protect poultry effectively. In this study, a recombinant-attenuated S. Pullorum strain secreting the NDV hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) protein, C79-13ΔcrpΔasd (pYA-HN), was constructed by using the suicide plasmid pREasd-mediated bacteria homologous re...
