Optical properties of metal nanowires and nanowire composite materials are studied. An incident electromagnetic wave can effectively couple to the propagating surface plasmon polariton (SPP) modes in metal nanowires resulting in very large local fields. The excited SPP modes depend on the structure of nanowires and their orientation with respect to incident radiation. A nanowire percolation com...
Single-crystalline Cd3P2 nanowires (NWs) have been synthesized via a solution-liquid-solid (SLS) mechanism. The lengths of the resulting nanowires can be effectively tuned in the range of 180 nm and 5 μm, and the photodetectors made of the Cd3P2 nanowires exhibited a pronounced photoresponse with high stability and reproducibility.
We report a novel approach for growing aligned and orientation-ordered ZnS nanowires. Our method relies on a buffer layer of CdSe grown on a Si(111) substrate, on which ZnS nanowires are grown. The growth process of the nanowire bundles is presented. The technique demonstrated could be an effective pathway for growing patterned, aligned, size-controlled, and orientation-ordered ZnS nanowires.
Extremely long gold nanowires spontaneously assemble in a water-dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) solution of Au(SCN)4(-). The Au nanowires were crystalline, exhibited a very high aspect ratio, and, importantly, were produced without co-addition of reducing agents. Transparent conductive films were formed by surface deposition of the nanowires and plasma treatment.
Background and Objective: All around the worlds, wastewater containing dye pollutants are considered serious problem. Rhodamine B dye which is used in textile, leather, drug, and cosmetic industries exert carcinogenic and strong toxic effects. The aim of this research was to remove of Rhodamine B dye by nanowires of zinc oxide doped with lanthanum. Materials and Methods: In this work, nanowire...
In this paper, a numerical solution procedure is presented for the free and forced vibration of a piezoelectric nanowire under thermo-electro-mechanical loads based on the nonlocal elasticity theory within the framework of Timoshenko beam theory. The influences of surface piezoelectricity, surface elasticity and residual surface stress are taken into consideration. Using Hamilton’s principle, t...
Ordered and free-standing metallic nanowires were fabricated by e-beam deposition on patterned polymer templates made by interference lithography. The dimensions of the nanowires can be controlled through adjustment of deposition conditions and polymer templates. Grain size, polarized optical transmission and electrical resistivity were measured with ordered and free-standing nanowires.
The growth of metal nanowires using membranes as hard templates is reviewed. The method provides access to arrays of single-crystal metal nanowires and to quasi-one-dimensional metal nanostructures with controlled compositional variation along their length. Recent applications of these kinds of nanowires to problems in superconductivity, optical spectroscopy and sensing, and catalytic conversio...
Thermal transport in silicon nanowires has captured the attention of scientists for understanding phonon transport at the nanoscale, and the thermoelectric figure-of-merit (ZT) reported in rough nanowires has inspired engineers to develop cost-effective waste heat recovery systems. Thermoelectric generators composed of silicon target high-temperature applications due to improved efficiency beyo...
Group IV Nanowires have strong potential for several biomedical applications. However, to date their use remains limited because many are synthesised using heavy metal seeds and functionalised using organic ligands to make the materials water dispersible. This can result in unpredicted toxic side effects for mammalian cells cultured on the wires. Here, we describe an approach to make seedless a...
