Aniline is widely used chemical for industrial purpose. Exposure to aniline can lead various health issues in human being. The most common toxic effect of splenotoxicity which produced via the generation oxidative stress. present study examines protective coenzyme Q10 and N-acetyl cysteine on spleen weight, body endogenous antioxidants membrane bound ATPases hydrochloride (AH) induced toxicity ...

Drug induced liver injury (DILI) leads to acute hepatitis in 10%, liver failure, and death in 30%. One of the major drugs causing DILI is Anti-tuberculous drugs and since tuberculosis is affecting 1/3rd of the total world population, their use is quite common. Use of Isoniazid (INH) is limited owing to hepatotoxicity following the stress produced by oxidative species. Silymarin has hepatoprotec...

BACKGROUND Myocardial protection by volatile anesthetics involves activation of cardiac adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium (K(ATP)) channels. The authors have previously shown that isoflurane enhances sensitivity of the sarcolemmal K(ATP) channel to the opener, pinacidil. Because reactive oxygen species seem to be mediators in anesthetic preconditioning, the authors investigated whether...

The role of ROS in hydroquinone-induced inhibition of K562 cell erythroid differentiation was investigated. After K562 cells were treated with hydroquinone for 24 h, and hemin was later added to induce erythroid differentiation for 48 h, hydroquinone inhibited hemin-induced hemoglobin synthesis and mRNA expression of γ-globin in K562 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. The 24-h exposure ...

Based on our previous findings, the present study has focused on free-radical-mediated degradation of the synovial biopolymer hyaluronan. The degradation was induced in vitro by the Weissberger's system comprising ascorbate plus cupric ions in the presence of oxygen, representing a model of the early phase of acute synovial joint inflammation. The study presents a novel strategy for hyaluronan ...

A combination of attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) and modulation excitation spectroscopy (MES) is used to study the enantiodiscriminating interactions between proline and a chiral, self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of N-acetyl-L-cysteine on gold. The N-acetyl-L-cysteine SAM consists of a mixture of protonated and deprotonated molecules. Whereas both species are influenced by adsorbed ...

Isoprenylation is a posttranslational modification that is believed to be necessary, but not sufficient, for the efficient association of numerous eukaryotic cell proteins with membranes. Additional modifications have been shown to be required for proper intracellular targeting and function of certain isoprenylated proteins in mammalian and yeast cells. Although protein isoprenylation has been ...

Phosphodiesterase is an enzyme that degrades the phosphodiester bond in second messenger molecules cAMP and cGMP, regulates localization, duration, amplitude of cyclic nucleotide signaling within subcellular domains. Sildenafil a potent selective inhibitor type 5 cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase used clinically to treat erectile dysfunction pulmonary arterial hypertension. In this study, we exam...

Intracellular levels of glutathione are depleted in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in whom the risk of tuberculosis, particularly disseminated disease is many times that of healthy individuals. In this study, we examined the role of glutathione in immunity against tuberculosis infection in samples derived from healthy and human immunodeficiency virus infected subjects. Our stu...

When using the Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT), pretreatment of clinical specimens with N-acetyl-L-cysteine-NaOH is recommended by the manufacturer. Processing of clinical specimens (n = 1,000) with sodium dodecyl (lauryl) sulfate-NaOH resulted in both poor recovery and delayed mean time to detection of acid-fast bacilli. Values were comparable to those obtained on solid media.
