Comments by de Jong et al., Solter et al., and Sloggett question the ecological relevance of the abundant microsporidia found in the invasive ladybird Harmonia axyridis. We contend that there is abundant evidence that native ladybirds feed on H. axyridis eggs and that interspecific microsporidial transfer is a common phenomenon, supporting the proposed role of these parasites as biological weap...

In this report we describe the cultivation of two isolates of microsporidia, one from urine and the other from sputum samples from a Spanish AIDS patient. We identified them as Encephalitozoon cuniculi, type strain III (the dog genotype), based on ultrastructure, antigenic characteristics, PCR, and the sequence of the ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer region.

We report the first case of a non-Enterocytozoon bieneusi microsporidial infection in the small intestine of a European AIDS patient with diarrhoea. It is also the first case in which a double infection with two different types of microsporidia has been encountered.

We report a case of disseminated microsporidiosis in a patient with multiple myeloma who had received an allogeneic stem cell transplant requiring substantial immunosuppression. The causative organism was identified as Tubulinosema acridophagus, confirming this genus of microsporidia as a novel human pathogen.
