The F-ATPase of the bacterium Propionigenium modestum is driven by an electrochemical sodium gradient between the cell interior and its environment. Here we present a mechanochemical model for the transduction of transmembrane sodium-motive force into rotary torque. The same mechanism is likely to operate in other F-ATPases, including the proton-driven F-ATPases of Escherichia coli.
The two-step mechanochemical preparation of carbene-pyridine complexes of palladium and platinum is reported. A novel mechanochemical method was proposed to reconstruct quickly moisture-degraded HKUST-1. The degraded HKUST-1 can be restored within minutes. The reconstructed samples were characterized, and confirmed to have 95% surface area and 92% benzene capacity of the fresh HKUST-1. A mechanochemical "solvent-free" route is presented for the preparation of solid samples ready to be employed in the Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP). (1)H-DNP build-up curves at 3.46 T as a function of temperature and radical concentration show steady state nuclear polarization of 10% (0.5% TEMPO concentration at 1.75 K).
