Two novel pendant-armed dialdehydes (1a and 1b) were prepared by a one-step reaction between 5-chloro-3-(chloromethyl)-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde/5-methyl-3-(chloromethyl)-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and cyclohexylamine involving two nucleophilic substitutions, and they were used to react with 1,3-propanediamine to prepare Schiff-base macrocyclic complexes in the presence of ZnX2 salts (X = Cl, Br, and I)...

A practical synthesis of a tetrahydroaminoquinoline scaffold (12) was developed that used a stereocontrolled aza Michael as the key reaction. Three tetrahydroquinoline alkaloid-like, tricyclic derivatives 16, 18, and 19 with different medium to macrocyclic ring skeletons were obtained, using this scaffold as the starting material, in a modular manner. The macrocyclic compounds with an isolated ...

in this paper, cubic nickel oxide nanoparticles were successfully prepared by solid-state thermal decomposition of nickel(ii) macrocyclic schiff-base complex at 450°c for 3 h without employing toxic solvent or surfactant and complicated equipment. nickel(ii) macrocyclic schiff-base complex was synthesized by the reaction of 1,2-bis(2-formyl-3-methoxyphenyl)propane, nicl2•6h2o and 1,3-phenylened...

A new strategy to access macrocyclic enynes was developed. To block undesired ene-yne cyclization pathways, alkynes were protected via bromination and the resultant acyclic vic-(E)-dibromotrienes participated in selective ene-ene ring closing metathesis reactions. Zinc-promoted deprotection of (E)-dibromodienes provided macrocyclic enynes in high yields.

Poly[1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane(2+) [hepta-mu-sulfido-trisulfidohexaantimony(III)]], {(C10H26N4)[Sb6S10]}n, consists of novel [Sb6S10]2- layers containing Sb2S2, Sb4S4 and Sb7S7 hetero-rings, which are separated by macrocyclic amine molecules. The macrocyclic amine molecules are disordered over two crystallographically distinct positions and are diprotonated in order to balance the charg...

The polyamines, putrescine, spermidine, and spermine, are essential polycations, intimately involved in the regulation of cellular proliferation. Although polyamines exert dynamic effects on the conformation of nucleic acids and macromolecular synthesis in vitro, their specific functions in vivo are poorly understood. We investigated the cellular function of polyamines by overexpression of a ke...

It has been confirmed that multidrug resistant (MDR) human melanoma cells are more sensitive than their wild-type counterparts to H2O2 and aldehydes, the products of bovine serum amine oxidase (BSAO)-catalyzed oxidation of spermine. The metabolites formed by BSAO and spermine are more toxic than exogenous H2O2 and acrolein, even though their concentration is lower during the initial phase of in...

The role of antizyme (AZ) and glycosaminoglycans in polyamine uptake by mammalian cells and mitochondria was examined using NIH3T3 and FM3A cells and rat liver mitochondria. AZ is synthesized as two isoforms (29 and 24.5 kDa) due to the existence of two initiation codon AUGs in the AZ mRNA. Most AZ existed as the 24.5-kDa form translatable from the second AUG, but a portion of the 29-kDa AZ fro...

BACKGROUND Snyder-Robinson Syndrome (SRS) is an X-linked intellectual disability disorder also characterized by osteoporosis, scoliosis, and dysmorphic facial features. It is caused by mutations in SMS, a ubiquitously expressed gene encoding the polyamine biosynthetic enzyme spermine synthase. We hypothesized that the tissue specificity of SRS arises from differential sensitivity to spermidine ...

The relationship between polyamine synthesis, growth and secretion in vivo was examined in ventral prostates from: (a) intact rats aged 3-60 weeks; (b) animals castrated for 7 days before injection with 5r-dihydrotestosterone (17,8-hydroxy-5a-androstan-3-one), testosterone and 5 r-androstane-3,8,17,f-diol for up to 10 days; (c) rats injected with the 3fi,17fidiol immediately after castration. O...
