Optoelectronic devices in the mid-infrared have attracted significant interest due to numerous potential applications communications and sensing. Molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) growth of highly doped InAs has emerged as a promising “designer metal” platform for plasmonic enhancement devices. However, while typical materials can be patterned engineer strong localized resonances, lack lateral con...
The paired bondage number (total restrained bondage number, independent bondage number, k-rainbow bondage number) of a graph G, is the minimum number of edges whose removal from G results in a graph with larger paired domination number (respectively, total restrained domination number, independent domination number, k-rainbow domination number). In this paper we show that the decision problems ...
Seventy patients were brought restrained to a Psychiatric outpatient department over a three month period, with the commonest site of restraint being the wrist. They were compared with controls and it was found that restrained patients were more likely to be younger, belonging to a lower socioeconomic status, from a rural background and were more likely to be diagnosed as manic. The significanc...
An analysis of the attitudes of 600 parents towards children's car-restraints together with their use is presented. Only 47% of infants under 9 months of age and 26% of children under 15 years of age were always appropriately restrained. Children under 4 were more likely to be restrained than older children and previous involvement in a road-traffic accident led to increased use of restraint.
Restraint in animals is known to cause stress but is used during almost all scientific procedures in rodents, representing a major welfare and scientific issue. Administration of substances, a key part of most scientific procedures, almost always involves physical restraint of the animal. In this study, we developed a method to inject substances to rats using a non-restrained technique. We then...
Drive for thinness is a cardinal feature of bulimia nervosa. However, the widely used Drive for Thinness (DFT) subscale of the Eating Disorder Inventory (Garner, 2004; Garner, Olmstead, & Polivy, 1983) appears to measure a desire to be thinner, not a desire to be objectively thin. We developed the Drive for Objective Thinness (DFOT) Scale and compared unrestrained and restrained eaters and thos...
