BACKGROUND Wine appears to be a significant trigger for asthma. Although sulfite additives have been implicated as a major cause of wine induced asthma, direct evidence is limited. Two studies were undertaken to assess sulfite reactivity in wine sensitive asthmatics. The first study assessed sensitivity to sulfites in wine using a single dose sulfited wine challenge protocol followed by a doubl...

We propose a method for automatic poetry composition with a given document as inspiration. The poems generated are not limited to the topic of the document. They expand the topic or even put it in a new light. This capability is enabled by first detecting significant word associations that are unique to the document and then using them as the key lexicon for poetry composition.

Poetry composition is a very complex task that requires a poet to satisfy multiple constraints concurrently. We believe that the task can be augmented by combining the creative abilities of humans with computational algorithms that efficiently constrain and permute available choices. We present a hybrid method for generating poetry from prose that combines crowdsourcing with natural language pr...

Background: Recent concerns have been raised regarding heavy metal content in wine and its potential health implications. The goal of this study was to determine if lead (Pb) intake poses a health risk among adult consumers of wine. This was achieved by performing a literature review of studies reporting Pb concentration in United States and international wines, determining adult wine consumpti...

BACKGROUND Reduced lipoprotein oxidizability by red wine phenols has been proposed as the basis for a relatively lower incidence of coronary heart disease in red wine drinkers. We showed previously that caffeic and protocatechuic acids isolated from red wine exhibit antioxidant activity in vitro. However, there is no information in the literature on the absorption of these compounds after red w...

plicitly, by an equally nebulous third term: sense. The relation is ambiguous, and shift- ing, because sound—especially in the context of poetry—is of that species of homographs which produce their own antonyms.4 On the one hand, sound—defined as “the au- dible articulation(s) corresponding to a let- ter or word” (def. 4b)—has been understood as distinct from linguistic meaning: “the sound m...

format. The novel is still the most popular genre in the young adult literature market, and so by calling it “a novel,” publishers and authors reassure readers that this is what they’ve come to enjoy. Equally important, booksellers will shelve the book with other novels rather than with poetry, though my own experience is that the shelving process in bookstores and libraries is an inconsistent ...

Memory for details of text generally declines relatively rapidly, whereas memory for propositional and context-based meanings is generally more resilient over time. In the present study, we investigated short-term memory for two kinds of verbal material: prose and poetry. Participants heard or read prose stories or poems in which aphrase near the start of the passage served as a target. The tex...

when we return to the concept of poetry and the age-old discussion about the uselessness or the usefulness of the poets to the private and public state of human beings, originating from plato and aristotles views about poets respectively, there emerges the question of the role of poetry in human beings lives. in the same manner, with the advance of technology and the daily progress and improvem...

T study examines the use of wine futures (i.e., advance selling of wine before it is bottled) as a form of operational flexibility to mitigate quality rating risk. At the end of a harvest season, the winemaker obtains a certain number of barrels of wine that can be produced for a particular vintage. While the wine is aging in the barrel, expert reviewers taste the wine and create a barrel score...
