In 2013, a comparison of activity measurements of 99m Tc using the Transfer Instrument of the International Reference System (SIRTI) took place at the Institutul National de Cercetare Dezvoltare in Fizica si Inginerie Nucleara – "Horia Hulubei" (IFIN-HH, Romania). Ampoules containing about 21 kBq and 40 kBq of a 99m Tc solution were measured in the SIRTI for, respectively, one and three half-li...

AMONG STUDENTS OF THE WORKS of Sir Walter Scott there may be an awareness that the University of Melbourne Library is the repository of one of the best collections in the world devoted to the author. But that awareness is limited, since the Library's Scott collection is not catalogued, and to that extent it may fairly be said that the Baillieu Library has within its walls a research resource of...

Uncertainty avoidance may explain why younger and older people were less likely to be union members. overview institutions are resilient social structures that grow because of their perceived legitimacy (Scott, 2001). Labour unions are institutions that may flourish when they are perceived as legitimate (Bronfenbrenner, 1997; Hurd, Milkman and Turner, 2003). This study extends prior research on...

We introduce two new topologies on ordered sets: the way below topology and weakly way below topology. These are similar in definition to the Scott topology, but are very different if the set is not continuous. The basic properties of these three topologies are compared. We will show that while domain representable spaces must be Baire, this is not the case with the new topologies.

Experience and anecdotal evidence suggest that men and women use—or do not use—public libraries in different ways and amounts. Compared to extensive research on male and female differences in reading, computer use or within the context of the school library, there is relatively little descriptive research showing the library preferences of adult men and women. This study analyzed over 1,200 use...

Lukasiewicz' infinite-valued logic L has been used by a number of authors to study reasoning with vague, "fuzzy", or uncertain statements ([5], [2], [11], [12]). Scott and, more recently, Katz have also argued that L is appropriate for the logic of degrees of error or degrees of approximation to the truth ([6], p. 421 and [4], p. 773). The aim of this note is to show that L is not appropriate f...

Models that assume only consumer tastes determine the characteristics of supply are restrictive; producers can gain utility from aspects of production and pay for deviating from demand by accepting lower financial returns. We model and measure motivations of California winery owners, and analyze their effects on quality and price. We find utility-maximizers are more likely to produce high quali...

In this paper we attempt to find and investigate the most general class of posets which satisfy a properly generalized version of the Hofmann-Mislove theorem. For that purpose, we generalize and study some notions (like compactness, the Scott topology, Scott open filters, prime elements, the spectrum etc.), and adjust them for use in general posets instead of frames. Then we characterize the po...

We consider a system of outflows ejected from low mass young stars embedded in the tips of elephant trunks. We assume that these outflows have axes which are intrinsically perpendicular to the axes of the host elephant trunks. We then derive the distribution function expected for the angle between the projections of the outflow and elephant trunk axes on the plane of the sky. These distribution...
