In this paper, we propose a technique for determining a source term in an inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP) using Radial Basis Functions (RBFs). Because of being very suitable instruments, the RBFs have been applied for solving Partial Dierential Equations (PDEs) by some researchers. In the current study, a stable meshless method will be pro- posed for solving an (I...
We describe an algorithm for the reconstruction of the equilibrium in a Tokamak from discrete magnetic measurements. In order to solve this inverse problem we first use toroidal harmonics to compute Cauchy boundary conditions on a fixed closed contour. Then we use these Cauchy boundary conditions to solve a non-linear source identification problem.
We study the issues of reconstruction of the inverse nodal problem for the one-dimensional p-Laplacian eigenvalue problem with eigenparameter boundary value conditions. A key step is the application of a modified Prüfer substitution to derive a detailed asymptotic expansion for the eigenvalues and nodal lengths. The parameter boundary data are also reconstructed.
In this article, we consider a Cauchy problem of heat equation, that is, determining the unknown temperature and heat flux at an inaccessible boundary from scattered temperature measurements on an accessible boundary or in some interior locations. This method is similar to the boundary control approach proposed by Leevan Ling and Tomoya Takeuchi in [1] where the authors considered a Cauchy prob...
We study the inverse problem of determining an electrical inclusion from boundary measurements. We derive a stability estimate for the linearized map with explicit formulae on generic constants that shows that the problem becomes more ill-posed as the inclusion is farther from the boundary. We also show that this estimate is optimal.
The subject of this talk concerns to the classical inverse spectral problem. This inverse problem can be formulated as follows: do the Dirichlet eigenvalues and the derivatives (which order?) of the normalized eigenfunctions at the boundary determine uniquely the coefficients of the corresponding differential operator? For operators of order two this type of theorem is called Borg-Levinson theo...
(Received July 12, 2009, accepted September 3, 2009) Abstract. In this paper we consider a numerical approach for the determination of an unknown boundary condition in the inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP). The given heat conduction equation, the boundary condition, and the initial condition are presented in a dimensionless form. The numerical algorithm based on finite-difference method an...
The inverse eddy-current problem of fast transients is solved by a new boundary element formulation employing time domain surface impedance boundary conditions. The integral equation is transformed to invariant form and is solved only once for a given geometry of the problem. Numerical results are in good agreement with measured data.
Nonselfadjoint boundary value problems for second-order differential equations on a finite interval with nonintegrable singularities inside the interval are considered under additional sewing conditions for solutions at the singular point. We study properties of the spectrum, prove the completeness of eigenand associated functions, and investigate the inverse problem of recovering the boundary ...
The inverse problem we consider in this tutorial is to determine the shape of an obstacle from the knowledge of the far field pattern for scattering of time-harmonic plane waves. In the first part we will concentrate on the issue of uniqueness, i.e., we will investigate under what conditions an obstacle and its boundary condition can be identified from a knowledge of its far field pattern for i...
