Purpose: The American Urological Association convened the Clinical Guidelines Panel on Erectile Dysfunction to analyze the literature regarding available methods for treating organic erectile dysfunction and to make practice recommendations based on the treatment outcomes data. Materials and Methods: The panel searched the MEDLINE data base for all articles from 1979 through 1994 on treatment o...

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of intramuscular injection of medetomidine on intra-renal arteriesresistive and pulsatility indices by duplex Doppler ultrasonographyin clinically normal adult domestic shorthair cats. For this purpose, twenty-six neutered adult healthy domestic shorthair cats (13 females and 13 males) were evaluated. B-mode, color Doppler and pulsed wave Doppl...

The effects of intra-articular injection of triamcinolone hexacetonide on the rate of clearance of radioactive xenon (133Xe) was studied in 11 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. No effect of the corticosteroid injection was observed, which suggests that the drug has no immediate effect on synovial blood vessels.

OBJECTIVES This study sought to evaluate the feasibility of using ultra-low-dose intra-arterial contrast injection for iliofemoral computed tomographic (CT) angiography to follow diagnostic cardiac catheterization. BACKGROUND Cardiovascular interventions such as percutaneous aortic valve replacement require transfemoral delivery of large-bore intra-arterial catheters; therefore, pre-procedura...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-visible amonafide-eluting alginate microspheres were developed for targeted arterial-infusion chemotherapy. These alginate microspheres were synthesized using a highly efficient microfluidic gelation process. The microspheres included magnetic clusters formed by USPIO nanoparticles to permit MRI and a sustained drug-release profile. The biocompatibility, MR imag...

OBJECTIVES Our objective was to test the hypothesis that the ultrasound pulsing interval (PI), microbubble injection site and microvascular pressure significantly influence the transport of 100-nm microspheres to muscle through extravasation sites created by the destruction of microbubbles with ultrasound. BACKGROUND Microbubbles show promise as targeted drug and gene delivery agents; however...

Vasodilatory or vasoconstrictive renal pharmacoangiography was applied in investigating the significance of 50 renal artery stenoses. The technique involves comparison of selective magnification renal arteriograms before and after intra-arterial injection of epinephrine or acetylcholine, seeking changes in direction of flow in potential collateral routes. The drug injected depended upon the hem...

Studies showed that gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and its derivatives have the potential to be anti-cancer molecules. In vitro, in vivo and limited clinical studies showed that GLA has selective tumoricidal action with little or no side effects. The mechanism of its action appears to be by inducing apoptosis of tumor cells by augmenting free radical generation only in the tumor cells but not norma...

BACKGROUND Some limitations of traditional ("mamillary") compartmental pharmacokinetic models of anaesthetic related drugs arise from representing the blood as a central compartment. Recirculatory pharmacokinetic models overcome these limitations. It is proposed that the simplest recirculatory model has only two compartments, and that understanding the properties of this model is a useful intro...
