岩殿丘陵西縁部の帰属不明の砂質シルト岩試料の堆積年代を明らかにするために,珪藻化石分析を行った.分析した試料からは,珪藻化石帯NPD4A帯(Denticulopsis lauta帯)を特徴づける珪藻化石が産出するため,年代は中期中新世前期と判断される.また,Cavitatus lanceolatusを産することから,本試料の年代は生層準D41.5(Cv. lanceolatusの初産出:15.6 Ma)– D43.2(Cv. lanceolatusの終産出:15.2 Ma)の区間に限定される.珪藻化石層序に基づくと,本試料は比企層群荒川層の上部か市ノ川層に対比される.
