It has been suggested that muskoxen calve earlier with increasing latitude but the available data do not seem to have been thoroughly analyzed. Therefore, estimated conception dates (K=657) from a wide range of latitudes were compared. The results indicate that conceptions occur about a month earlier in the arctic than at temperate latitudes. This conclusion is consistent with reported observat...

The impact of latitude on sleep duration remains virtually unexplored, even though latitude exerts profound influences on daylight duration. Using Chile as a one-country model, we explored on the potential associations between sleep duration and latitude. Based on the 2nd Chilean Health Survey, we identified reported sleep data during spring of people living from north to south in Chilean citie...

We have used the Arecibo Radio Telescope to search for millisecond pulsars in two intermediate Galactic latitude regions (7 < |b| < 20) accessible to this telescope. For these latitudes the useful millisecond pulsar search volume achieved by Arecibo’s 430-MHz beam is predicted to be maximal. Searching a total of 130 square degrees, we have discovered nine new pulsars and detected four previousl...

We present a summary of spectroscopic identifications for a complete sample of bright soft high galactic latitude X-ray sources drawn from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey which have PSPC count-rates CR > 0.5 cts s−1 and hardness ratios HR1 < 0. Of a total of 397 sources, 270 had catalogued counterparts although most of these were not previously known as X-ray sources; of the remaining 127 sources neit...

We have developed and examined a new regional geomagnetic index AES-80, de®ned similarly to the classical auroral electrojet AE index, using data from ®ve Antarctic stations located at corrected geomagnetic latitudes about 80 °S. Because only sparse ground-based information can be derived from auroral latitudes in the Southern Hemisphere, and because no index comparable to AE can be constructed...

We study the galactic latitude distribution of rotational velocity of a large sample of about 1 220 evolved stars of luminosity classes IV, III, II and Ib, with spectral types F, G and K. We show that there is a tendency for stars with enhanced rotational velocity to concentrate near the galactic plane. Such a trend is more evident for the more evolved stars.

The geomagnetic lunax daily variation field, L, was studied using all available results of lunar analysis of geomagnetic data from a total of 37 stations. Equivalent external (overhead) and internal (induced within the earth) electric current systems responsible for L variations with respect to dip latitude were estimated by the method of spherical harmonic analysis for each season. The externa...

The acceleration of the low-latitude solar wind, which comes from regions of the corona above large, closed magnetic loops, is a theoretical challenge. Until recently we have lacked direct measurements close to the Sun with which to constrain the theory. When a series of high-resolution coronagraph images is viewed in the form of a movie the continuous outflow of matter from the Sun is very obv...
