In an ESR spin-trapping measurement of hydroxyl radicals formed in a Fenton reaction, the trapping efficiency with DMPO increased by about 300 times in a sodium trifluoroacetate solution, whereas it was little changed in a phosphate buffer.

Mitomycin C (MC) is a naturally occurring anticancer agent which has been shownto be more cytotoxicto hypoxictumor cells than to their aerobic counterparts. The mechanism of action of this agent is thought to involvebiologicalreductiveactivation,to a speciesthat alkylutes DNA. A comparisonof the cytotoxicityof MC to EMT6 tumor cells with that of the structural analogues porfiromycin(PM), .•V-...

Oxygen free radicals or oxidants that arise from molecular oxygen by successive single-electron reduction reactions, include the superoxide anion (O2), the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and hydroxyl radicals (·OH) (Chan 1996). Physiological levels of free radicals are needed for redox sensitive signal pathways, cell development and cell apoptosis (Chan 2001). During brain ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)...

Hydroxyl radical (·OH) can rapidly react with biological macromolecules, organic and inorganic substances on account of its strong oxidizing property, so it is widely used in sewage treatment, chemiluminescence analysis, macromolecule modification other fields. The strengthening effect Hydrodynamic cavitation chemical reactions depends the number free radicals initiated by cavitation. These are...

増 田高廣,吉 原清隆,篠 原広行,近 藤正春:東 京都立大学理学部化学教室,東 京都世 田谷 区深 沢2-1-1〒158 Rate constants for the hydrogen abstraction reactions of hydroxyl radicals from aliphatic peptides and N-acetyl amino acids were determined by the p-nitrosodimethylaniline method in gamma-irradiated solutions. For peptides, enhancement of reactivity toward hydroxyl radicals was expected, because of disappearance of suppression by NH3...
