Designing a bifunctional catalyst for hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) and evolution (HER) is significant toward developing sustainable hydrogen-electric conversion systems. Herein, cost-effective catalyst, Ru/N-doped Carbon@WO3-W2C (Ru/NC@WOC), was developed via co-precipitation polyol reduction. Ru/NC@WOC showed superior HOR/HER activity in alkaline solution comparison with commercial Pt/C. ...
RuOx is a promising electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), but it suffers from competition between *OH and *H adsorption over-binding effect of H on surface. FeOOH features strong oxophilicity, making expectedly form RuOx/FeOOH composite to efficiently catalyze HER. Considering oxidability Ru3+, desirable design moderate environment with homogeneous structure accessible Ru s...
Electrochemical water splitting requires new, low-cost cathode electrodes for the hydrogen evolution reaction to enable worldwide implementation of electrolyzers. Cobalt borides are proposed as one most promising materials overcome limitations commercial electrocatalysts, but catalytic activity still needs be improved competitive. Here, we report that introduction zinc into cobalt boride produc...
Microelectrodes for hydrogen permeation measurements were fabricated by photolithography. Although the application of a positive-type photoresist coating was effective formation circle-shaped pattern with diameter several tens micrometers on an iron surface, had poor adhesion to surface and durability in H2SO4 solution. However, addition silica derived from tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as inner lay...
Green hydrogen produced by water electrolysis in combination with renewable energy is expected to become a key enabler for decarbonization of and transportation sectors as well hard-to-abate industries, contributing the achievement carbon neutrality. Compared conventional alkaline technology, proton exchange membrane (PEMWE) possesses many advantages green production, but currently relies heavi...
Monolayered, semiconducting MoS2 and their transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) families are promising low-cost materials for hydrogen generation through electrolytes (HER, evolution reaction) due to high activities electrochemical stability during the reaction. However, there is still a lack of understanding in identifying underlying mechanism responsible improving electrocatalytic propert...
We report here a Cu(0)-based catalyst free of noble metals for the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction in neutral water with an onset overpotential of only 70 mV. This is the lowest reported value among Cu(0)-based catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction in neutral water.
Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution has been made possible by using oxalate as a carbon-neutral electron source, metal nanoparticles as hydrogen-evolution catalysts and the 2-phenyl-4-(1-naphthyl)quinolinium ion (QuPh(+)-NA), which forms the long-lived electron-transfer state upon photoexcitation, as a photocatalyst. The hydrogen evolution was conducted in a deaerated mixed solution of an aqueous...
