A glass-ceramic optical fiber containing Ba2TiSi2O8 nanocrystals fabricated using a novel combination of the melt-in-tube method and successive heat treatment is reported for the first time. For the melt-in-tube method, fibers act as a precursor at the drawing temperature for which the cladding glass is softened while the core glass is melted. It is demonstrated experimentally that following he...

A simple and sensitive fluorescence detection of domperidone by ultra fast liquid chromatographic method was developed and validated in human serum. For the evaluation of new drug delivery systems, conducting of pharmacokinetic studies in human volunteers is essential for approval to marketing after preclinical evaluation in animal models. The present method consists of protein precipitation, e...

The temperature thawing, as called tempering, of triacylglycerols (TAGs) is an important processing method in food productions, such as chocolates, cream, confections, and spreads. Especially, melt-mediation by temperature thawing is famous in chocolate production for controlling the polymorphic crystalline forms and accelerating crystallization. In the present study, we investigated the α-melt...

CONTEXT Real-time polymerase chain reaction technologies have replaced many of the more labor-intense methods in the molecular diagnostics laboratory. Similarly, melt curve analysis can provide a rapid means of mutation screening. OBJECTIVE To determine if real-time polymerase chain reaction and melt curve analysis using the SmartCycler II could be used as a screening tool for 3 common mutati...

We investigate melt generation in a slowly extending lithosphere with the aim of understanding the spatial and temporal relationships between magmatism and preexisting rift systems. We present numerical models that consider feedback between melt generation and lithospheric deformation, and we incorporate three different damage mechanisms: brittle damage, creep damage, and melt damage. Melt cond...

A volcanic crust may be produced as a result of magma ocean processes. Solidification of a magma ocean naturally produces a silicate mantle with denser layers near the surface, therefore unstable to gravitational overturn. The mantle is predicted to rapidly flow in the solid state to gravitational stability. Hot buoyant silicate mantle rising from depth will melt through depressurization and er...

A method for producing synthetic debris similar to the melt glass produced by nuclear surface testing is demonstrated. Melt glass from the first nuclear weapon test (commonly referred to as trinitite) is used as the benchmark for this study. These surrogates can be used to simulate a variety of scenarios and will serve as a tool for developing and validating forensic analysis methods.

Dislocation and grain-boundary melting are studied in three dimensions using the phase field crystal method. Isolated dislocations are found to melt radially outward from their core, as the localized excess elastic energy drives a power-law divergence in the melt radius. Dislocations within low angle to intermediate angle grain boundaries melt similarly until an angle-dependent first-order wett...

In this work, the structural and magnetic properties of ingot and melt-spun Pr3Fe24.75Co2.75Ti1.5 compounds have been investigated. The structural characterization of the compounds, by X-ray powder diffraction, is evidenced for a monoclinic Nd3(Fe,Ti)29-type structure (A2/m space group). A 2-type FOMP have been observed in the magnetic AC susceptibility curves of the ingot and melt-spun compoun...
