Using a fully self-consistent quantum statistical model, we demonstrate the possibility of Bose condensation of nuclei in heavy ion collisions. The most favorable conditions of high densities and low temperatures are usually associated with astrophysical processes and may be difficult to achieve in heavy ion collisions. Nonetheless, some suggestions for the possible experimental verification ...

We discuss the effects of fast nuclear excitations on heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies near and below the Coulomb barrier. Using the fusion of two 40 Ca nuclei as an example and the inversion method, we show that the mass renormalization induced by fast nuclear excitations leads to a large surface diffuseness in the effective potential for heavy-ion fusion reactions.

We compute three particle correlations in the Glasma flux tube model of high energy heavy ion collisions. We obtain a simple geometrical picture of these correlations; when convoluted with final state radial flow, it results in distinct predictions for the near side three particle correlation in central heavy ion collisions.

We study the spectrum of the bremsstrahlung photons coming from the electrons and positrons, which are produced in the strong electromagnetic fields present in peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions. We compare different approaches, making use of the exact pair production cross section in heavy ion collisions as well as the double equivalent photon approximation. 25.75.-q,13.40.-f Typeset...

A 106.08MHz superconducting quarter wave resonator, based on the bulk niobium technology developed at LNL for low beta heavy ion linacs, has been designed, constructed and tested in a collaboration between INFNLNL and TRIUMF. This superconducting heavy ion linac of ISAC-II, the future extension to the present ISAC radioactive beam facility. sections. Cavity design characteristics and test resul...

We discuss the relevance of chaotic scattering in heavy-ion reactions at energies around the Coulomb barrier. A model in two and three dimensions which takes into account rotational degrees of freedom is discussed both classically and quantum mechanically. The typical chaotic features found in this description of heavy-ion collisions are connected with the anomalous behavior of several experime...

NASA has recognized the need for making additional heavy-ion collision measurements at the U.S. Brookhaven National Laboratory in order to support further improvement of several particle physics transport-code models for space exploration applications. FLUKA has been identified as one of these codes and we will review the nature and status of this investigation as it relates to high-energy heav...

A review on experimental results for direct photon production in heavy ion reactions is given. A brief survey of early direct photon limits from SPS experiments is presented. The first measurement of direct photons in heavy ion reactions from the WA98 collaboration is discussed and compared to theoretical calculations. An outlook on the perspective of photon measurements at RHIC is given.

The model to simulate rescattering and partonic energy loss in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions is presented. The full heavy ion event is obtained as a superposition of a soft hydro-type state and hard multi-jets. This model is capable of reproducing main features of the jet quenching pattern at RHIC, and is applied to probe jet quenching in various novel channels at LHC.
