A fibrovascular polyp is a rare benign disease of the upper digestive tract and is usually located in the esophagus. To our knowledge, this is the first case of gastric fibrovascular polyp presenting with melena reported in the English literature. The polyp was well visualized on endoscopy and removed with laparoscopic wedge resection. Histology confirmed fibrovascular polyp of the stomach.

Computational intelligent systems could reduce polyp miss rate in colonoscopy for colon cancer diagnosis and, thus, increase the efficiency of the procedure. One of the main problems of existing polyp localization methods is a lack of spatio-temporal stability in their response. We propose to explore the response of a given polyp localization across temporal windows in order to select those ima...

Drosophila C-terminal binding protein (dCtBP) and Groucho have been identified as Hairy-interacting proteins required for embryonic segmentation and Hairy-mediated transcriptional repression. While both dCtBP and Groucho are required for proper Hairy function, their properties are very different. As would be expected for a co-repressor, reduced Groucho activity enhances the hairy mutant phenoty...

The electrophoretic mobility distributions of hairy cells, normal monocytes. CLL, and normal lymphocytes isolated from blood were determined by electrophoretic light scattering. Values obtained for hairy cells, 1.52 X 10(-4) cm2/V . sec, were indistinguishable from that of normal monocytes. The mobility of CLL lymphocytes was similar to that of normal B cells. After exposure to neuraminidase, h...

Macro and micro-elements, carbon sources and elicitors play a central role during Panax ginseng hairy root growth, biomass and ginsenoside production and also influence numerous root developmental stages in largescale bioreactor culture. Due to the lack of biosynthetic nutrients and signalling-inducing nutrients, the regulatory role of mineral elements is not well understood. We have geneticall...

Hairy root systems are formed by transforming plant tissues with the “natural genetic engineer” Agrobacterium rhizogenes. In most plants such as Cichorium intybus L., hairy root cultures have proven to be an efficient system for secondary metabolites production. The effect of Zinc (ZnSO4), a heavy metal, was investigated at different concentrations (0, 1, 5 and 10 mM) on some secondary metaboli...

This study was performed to investigate the effect of Ag+ as an elicitor on the activity of antioxidant enzymes, content of H2O2, accumulation of total tocopherol and antioxidant activity in hairy root cultures of Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. The hairy roots were treated with 2 mM Ag+. The treated and non-treated hairy roots were harvested in the same time and data on H2O2 content, DPPH, tocop...

Sphenochoanal polyp is a rare form of choanal polyp which originates from the sphenoid sinus and extends to posterior choanae via sphenoethmoidal recess. Its occurrence is extremely rare. They can be easily mistaken for antrochoanal polyp. Symptomatically, it is similar to antrochoanal polyp. So, adequate preoperative evaluation with diagnostic nasal endoscopy and computed tomography or magneti...

Fibroepithelial pharyngeal polyps are rare. We herein report a case of a 56-year-old Asian woman who presented with voice hoarseness and throat discomfort for several years because of a giant pharyngeal polyp. We resected the polyp under general anesthesia. It originated in the left hypopharyngeal wall. Postoperative recovery was uneventful. Her sore throat was diminished within 1 week after th...

A gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp is a rare type of gastric polyp and is characterized by downward growth of a variety of mucosal components into the submucosa. The polyp consists of columnar cells resembling foveolar epithelium and pyloric gland epithelium and can coexist with gastritis cystica profunda. Frequently, adenocarcinoma can coexist, but the relation is not clear. A 77-year-old m...
