Parthenogenetically activated BCF1 and fertilized BALB/c embryos were aggregated to form chimaeras. The fate of the parthenogenetic component was followed in the conceptus during the second half of gestation. The results indicate an early strong selection against parthenogenetic cells in the extra-embryonal part, which is presumably complete by term, and a weaker selective process in the embryo...

Background: Recently, it has been found that exposure of sperm to PVP may cause submicroscopic changes in sperm structure and the sperm nucleus. The PVPinduced nuclear damage may have been due to breakdown of sperm membranes. Consequently, it is probable that exposure of sperm to PVP may impair embryo development. There are apparently no detailed reports regarding the specific effects of PVP on...

although the mechanisms under which sex ratio is controlled in nature remain unknown, researchers have attempted to treat sperm in an effort to predetermine the sex of the offspring. the methods of sperm separation that have been repeatedly reported to isolate fractions rich in x- or y-chromosome bearing sperm are serum albumin gradient swim-up and flow cytometry. however, the ability of the se...

Blastocyst quality score (BQS), first reported by Rehman et al., is a numerical blastocyst-morphology grading system based on the criteria established by Gardner and Schoolcraft. We demonstrate a positive correlation between the calculated BQS score and cell number by staining thawed human embryos and suggest that BQS can be applied to evaluate culture systems clinically.

Animals comprise dynamic three-dimensional arrays of cells that express gene products in intricate spatial and temporal patterns that determine cellular differentiation and morphogenesis. A rigorous understanding of these developmental processes requires automated methods that quantitatively record and analyze complex morphologies and their associated patterns of gene expression at cellular res...

Embryonic systems are cellular arrays with reconfiguration characteristics similar to those found in biological cellular organisms. Properties such as multicellular organisation, cellular differentiation and cellular division provide embryonic arrays with biological-like fault tolerance properties. This paper presents the detailed description of a basic cell to be used as the building block of ...

oocyte maturation and embryo development are controlled by intra-ovarian factors such as steroid hormones. progesterone (p4) exists in the follicular fluid that contributes to normal mammalian ovarian function and has several critical functions during embryo development and implantation, including endometrial receptivity, embryonic survival during gestation and transformation of the endometrial...

Removal of the polar lobe at the trefoil stage of the first cleavage division of Ilyanassa embryos causes abnormalities much later in development. To determine if the developmental differences between normal and delobed embryos were reflected in alterations in protein synthesis and at what stages of development these become evident, protein solutions were separated by disc electrophoresis on ba...

Maintenance of bilateral symmetry throughout animal development requires that both left and right halves of the body follow nearly identical patterns of cell proliferation, differentiation, death and migration. During formation of the perfectly bilateral Drosophila larval peripheral nervous system (PNS), the sensory precursor cells of the ventral multidendritic neuron vmd1a originating from eac...

embryo donation was one of the infertility treatment methods introduced to the iranian legal system in 2003 (act of embryo donation) and its by-law passed in 2005 after numerous discussions. embryo donation is a new legal issue in iran. no similar act has been previously legislated in the legal system; however, on the other hand, the importance of the judicial procedure in its execution cannot ...
